When structural engineering wins over the forces of nature The “Flying Saucer” glass bridge in Haizhaigou Scenic Area, Pingliang City, Gansu Province, represents a remarkable feat of modern structural and material innovation. Stretching 2,800 meters, this record-breaking glass plank road required meticulous design to ensure both safety and aesthetic appeal. Engineers had to face significant challenges, including wind resistance, structural stability over the vast span, and the integration of high-strength tempered glass capable of withstanding substantial loads. The unique “flying saucer” element adds complexity, requiring precision in load distribution and dynamic stress management. Advanced anchoring systems and resilient materials ensure the bridge can endure seismic activity and extreme weather, critical in its mountainous setting. Are you brave enough to walk on it? Remember that who designed it was even braver! #structuralengineering #engineering #technology #safety #bridge For more: 📌 Follow #ImpressiveEngineering 📌 Click on the 🔔 and select “All”

The largest retractable cover in the world? Medina brought one of the most interesting stands to the Smart City Expo World Congress and it was a pleasure to visit it and discover the wonderful projects completed and planned. On of the most exciting is the one shown in the video. Perhaps there is no space in the world that can be covered and discovered with automatic structures larger than this. They are great umbrellas but in reality they are much more for their size and for the system they manage to realise as a whole, as well as for the really ingenious automatisms. Once again technology gives a show! 📹 by Nuelarchitects and architecturediscuss #engineering #technology #innovation For more: 📌 Follow #ImpressiveEngineering 📌 Click on the 🔔 and select “All”

Do you need to increase the height of an existing building? As showed in the video, it is possible to increase the height of existing pillars by lifting the structure and insert extensions. However, this process is complex, requiring precise execution under expert supervision. Structural stability, stress redistribution, and proper integration of new elements must be carefully evaluated as well as safety during the execution of the work. While effective, it can be costly and therefore it is necessary to evaluate on a case-by-case basis whether it is worth it? What do you think about this technology? World tallest manmade waterfall Imagine strolling down a bustling street and, glancing upwards, you're met with an incredible sight—the Liebian Square in Guiyang City, Guizhou Province, China. This engineering wonder boasts a unique feature—an awe-inspiring urban waterfall. Activated only for special occasions, this captivating spectacle operates at a cost of $118 per hour. To conserve resources, it runs for just 20 minutes each time. The water is propelled to the top of the skyscraper by four powerful 250 hp or 185 kilowatt pumps, cascading down from a height of 354 feet or 108 meters—the world's tallest man-made waterfall. Eco-consciousness prevails in this design, as tap water is ingeniously recycled through an underground storage system. However, this groundbreaking creation sparked mixed reactions. Some applaud its brilliance, while others criticize it for water and electricity consumption. What are your thoughts on this captivating urban marvel? Beyond regulations: effective communication to promote a culture of safety This video is real, not AI. It shows a process carried out in a totally unacceptable manner according to current safety standards. Evidently, bad habits still remain in certain cultures today (be careful: even in Europe, in certain situations that are out of control). This is a reminder of how crucial it is to promote and spread a culture of safety in the workplace. Although progress is evident compared to the past, the path to a safe work environment is still long. Effective communication, even more than regulations, is the key to raising awareness and generating lasting change. Only with shared awareness and everyone's commitment can we aspire to better and safer working conditions. Otherwise, what is the point of the threat of a sanction, or dismissal, if you are so reckless as to risk your life like this? #engineering #construction #safety #workplace For more: 📌 Follow #ImpressiveEngineering 📌 Click on the 🔔 and select “All”

Do you know why Roman’s concrete is eternal? Yes, volcanic ash helps... but there's something more. One thing is certain, the Romans had the ability to create a type of self-healing and practically eternal concrete, as demonstrated by the works still intact after 2000 years. Today we are trying to reproduce the extraordinary characteristics of that particular concrete, which are better explained in the video. 📹by @PastPerplex #engineering #technology #CivilEngineering #construction For more: 📌 Follow #ImpressiveEngineering 📌 Click on the 🔔 and select “All”

Smart parking for smart city Automatic car parking systems represent a modern solution to optimize the use of urban space. In a context where every square meter counts, these technologies allow more vehicles to be parked in less space than traditional parking, freeing up valuable areas that could be repurposed for more sustainable uses, such as parks, community spaces or green infrastructure. Sure, the dream of a car-free smart city is fascinating and could one day materialize, but in the meantime, these innovations provide a smart compromise to balance mobility and quality of urban life. What do you think: is this a useful solution while waiting for a car-free future? #engineering #urbanism #future #smartcity For more: 📌 Follow #ImpressiveEngineering 📌 Click on the 🔔 and select “All”
