This holiday season, our Women Empowered (WE) Employee Resource Group hosted a toy drive to collect gifts for Marcus Garvey Apartments' annual toy giveaway in Brooklyn. WE received over 150 toys that were wrapped by teams across two offices and combined with presents collected by the property's management team and resident association for the event. A huge thank you to everyone who donated gifts for WE's holiday toy drive! Your generosity made a difference to the MGA community. #WomenEmpowered #EmployeeResourceGroup #HolidayToyDrive #SeasonOfGiving #WorkingTogether #BeyondHousing #WomenEmpoweredERG #ERG #LMDevelopmentPartners

The Arverne East Multipurpose Building in Rockaway Queens has been officially renamed the “Coastal Conservation Center” by local students from P.S. 106 Lighthouse Elementary School. The renaming ceremony was attended by Queens Borough President Donovan Richards Jr., Council Member Selvena Brooks-Powers, and other community stakeholders, who praised the vision of the students and presented them with certificates. The 6,000-square-foot Coastal Conservation Center was designed by WXY and is a beacon of sustainability. A closed-loop, geothermal system provides heating and cooling, and a rooftop solar array generates power for the building. It officially opened alongside the adjacent 35-acre Arverne East Nature Preserve in April with a ribbon cutting ceremony, giving the community a new meeting space, offices for park rangers, storage space for the NYC Parks Department, and public restrooms. Since then, the building has become a vibrant community hub and has hosted a wide range of events, including site tours, career days, nutritional cooking classes and even prom for the P.S. 106 fifth graders this past summer. The Arverne East Multipurpose Building is part of the overall Arverne East project that L+M is developing with partners The Bluestone Organization and Triangle Equities, which will transform a 116-acre vacant oceanfront site on the Rockaway Peninsula into the first net-zero community in New York City. It will include 1,650 housing units – 80% of which will be affordable. L+M team members distributed or boxed approximately 2,000 turkeys and dinners for families in New York City and New Jersey for Thanksgiving, reflecting our firm dedication to our communities. Of the overall total, more than 40 L+M volunteers helped box over 1,000 Thanksgiving meals, including a turkey, sides, and beverages, for FeedingNYC, which will deliver them to families across New York City. Then various L+M departments coordinated events across our portfolio in NYC to distribute over 800 turkeys or dinners to residents and members of the community. Additionally, L+M partnered with The Cipher Foundation once again to distribute 150 Thanksgiving meals, which included a turkey, apple pie, stuffing, cranberry sauce, potatoes, and candied yams, to residents at our Zion Towers property in Newark. Thank you to all our colleagues, volunteers, and partners who helped us give back to others for the holiday, and Happy Thanksgiving to all! #Thanksgiving #Thanksgiving2024 #ServingCommunities #Givingback #FeedingNYC #Volunteer #LMDevelopmentPartners #NYC #NewJersey #BeyondHousing

The bi-weekly Wise Walking Warriors program at our Arverne East development in the Rockaways in Queens was recently featured by NY1 for making an inspirational impact on the community! As part of the program, seniors walk along the boardwalk and do calisthenics to stay active and improve their overall health. They also learn about healthy eating and cooking via nutrition classes overseen by program leader Elizabeth Madison, RDN, CDN in our Arverne East Multipurpose Building. Thanks to the City Parks Foundation for this amazing free program for seniors. The Wise Walking Warriors program site was launched in 2022 with support from L+M and funding from local elected officials State Assembly Member Khaleel Anderson and Council Member Selvena Brooks-Powers. The Multipurpose Building is part of the overall Arverne East development, which will transform a 116-acre vacant oceanfront site on the Rockaway Peninsula into the first net-zero community in New York City.
