To commemorate MLK Day, members of SOUL — our African American Employee Resource Group — shared thoughts and tributes. Here's just one of them, from employee Alon Israel: "Today we can learn from the example that Martin Luther King Jr. left behind: We have a choice to live only for ourselves and those we are close to or, like King, we can live our life trying to change the world."

Sticky situation, meet innovation 🥜 In a five-day design sprint, 15 Lab engineers competed to test autonomous mobile vehicles against seven gallons of ultra-slick peanut butter. It may sound a little nutty, but this multidisciplinary project simulated the real-world problem of hazardous waste retrieval, requiring resource planning, equipment evaluation and shifting gears (sometimes literally) in response to failure. In cross-disciplinary teams of three, the engineers competed for awards like Best Design and Best Innovation. But the real winner was teamwork: “You had to quickly get together in your small group, find your bearings, and work with people who you normally don’t work with,” said Jens Pursche, one of the participating engineers. “Often, there were competing ideas, so we had to find consensus in the team.”
