As the Lowcountry becomes increasingly diverse, Lowcountry Food Bank is taking several steps to minimize or eliminate the language barriers that our neighbors experience. #LCFB does not want food pantries to keep language barriers from efficiently serving our diverse communities. We want our neighbors to have a safe, reliable and dignified experience when they seek food assistance. We have taken steps to translate key assistance resources and installed technology in our headquarters that enables us to have instantaneous communication with non-English speaking guests. 💬COMMENT | How can food pantries and other basic needs organizations address language barriers within their programs? 💻Read more: https://lnkd.in/eACKQD7Q #FoodInsecurity #FoodBarriers #FeedingTheLowcountry #LCFB #EDI

Our friends at Walmart are no strangers to uplifting the community! We’re excited to share that we recently received a generous grant from our local Walmart in North Myrtle Beach to support upcoming food distributions that meet #HorryCounty neighbors where they are. Today we shine a spotlight on the Charleston County Board of Voter Registration and Elections for their gift of $1,125. That’s nearly 5,625 meals we can help provide to our neighbors throughout the #Lowcountry! These funds were raised through CHS Vote's Adopt a Polling Location initiative, which allows non-partisan organizations like #Lowcountry Food Bank to “adopt” a polling site and provide staff to serve as poll workers on Election Day. In return, the Charleston County Board of Elections and Voter Registration gifts funds to organizations that can be reinvested into the community. #ThankfulThursday

“I see a lot of people suffering out there. People you wouldn’t expect – people you’d never assume would need a little help to get by. My husband and I are both on meds. I had a triple bypass surgery in 2002 and my husband has heart problems as well. This food has so much meaning to me, words can’t explain. Just being alive, waking up for another day here keeps me happy.” - Margaret Did you know nearly 50% of households served by Lowcountry Food Bank’s network of food pantries are employed? Even with a job, families can find it challenging to keep food on the table. Now more than ever, #LCFB is here to ensure ALL neighbors have the food they need to thrive! 📍 Food pantries near you: http://ow.ly/yOMc50Hy83E 📅Upcoming food distributions: http://ow.ly/LkRs50Hy83F 📍 Food pantries near you: http://ow.ly/yOMc50Hy83E 📅Upcoming food distributions: http://ow.ly/LkRs50Hy83F
