Last week, employees at the San Francisco office were treated to a special screening of Star Wars: A New Hope dubbed in the Ojibwe language, complete with a Q+A session prior to the movie, featuring Associate Professor of Indigenous Studies and Dubbing Project Lead Dr. Cary Miller and Lucasfilm Director of Distribution Operations and Dubbing Producer Michael Kohn as panelists, and Lucasfilm Director of Franchise Content & Animation Development Pablo Hidalgo and Manager of Integrated Planning Megan Goheen as hosts. The heritage marquee event was put on by the Disney Entertainment DEI team in collaboration with MOSAIC North American and Lucasfilm Lamphouse movie club. The Winnipeg members of the leadership team that assisted with this project gifted Michael and the Lucasfilm team a blanket and a jingle dress inspired by Princess Leia. In general, traditional Indigenous gift giving is about forming lasting relationships. Blankets symbolically carry the meaning that the receiving party will always be warm, secure, and in good health, and this blanket in particular was in recognition of Michael’s commitment to taking care of our communities by supporting this language project. The Princess Leia jingle dress recognizes both the healing that language resurgence is bringing to the communities as well as the powerful role model of Princess Leia as a strong woman leader and warrior who puts the needs of her community first. Lucasfilm received this dress in honor of our part of preserving the history of the creation of Anangong Miigaading. Star Wars: A New Hope dubbed in Ojibwe is streaming now on Disney+.

Last week, we celebrated 36 employees across Lucasfilm, ILM and Skywalker Sound, honoring 20, 30, and 40 years of service with the company. Our honorees hailed from the U.S., Vancouver, London and Sydney, and collectively amassed an incredible 990 years of service. It was an inspiring evening and an absolute honor to recognize this incredibly talented group of colleagues.

Five years ago today, the world was introduced to Cal Kestis and his adorable companion BD-1 as they explored the vast galaxy to attempt to rebuild what was left of the Jedi Order. Since then, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has gone on to receive 36 nominations and 12 award wins, solidifying its place as one of the most celebrated Star Wars stories in gaming history.

In honor of Life Day, a longstanding Wookiee tradition, Lucasfilm employees crafted a display case at the San Francisco office to honor the Star Wars holiday. Life Day celebrates the values and tenets of Wookiee culture: family, joy, and harmony. The set up process took over nine hours with employees handcrafting the trees, wrapping the gifts, and helping the Wookiees into their Life-Day-best in the days leading up to the construction. 5 years ago today, a lone Mandalorian bounty hunter made his debut in the premiere episode of Lucasfilm's first ever live action Star Wars series, #TheMandalorian. Since then, Din Djarin and his foundling Grogu have become fan favorite characters as they travel throughout the lawless galaxy.

Last month, Doug Chiang received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Concept Art Awards held at LightBox Expo. Every year, the Concept Art Association (CAA) awards the pioneers of the concept art industry for their contributions to the craft, and inspiring future generations of artists. The award was presented by Christian Alzmann, along with a special video message from George Lucas.
