He’ll be hitting the road, pitching to share our story—first stop: the Healthy Ideas, Healthy Returns (HIHR) conference and the Dutch Life Sciences conference. If you’re there, come say hi and learn about our true targeted therapy using harmless light! And if you see him juggling too many things, maybe just wish him luck. 😉 Here’s to an exciting few months! 💫 #TeamLumox #StartupLife #TrueTargetedTherapy #HIHR #DutchLifeScience
About us
We are developing a new therapy for cancer patients with two levels of specificity to minimize side effects: a nanobody directs a light-activatable drug to cancer cells, which are killed only upon local light application. The therapy can be applied in one day, with curative intent and no side effects. Research is performed in close collaboration with Utrecht University, the Netherlands.

IRATI AND SEBAS ARE GETTING TRAINED... AND PAID! 🚀💡 Every year, 14 scientists are handpicked to turn their research into real-world impact. These lucky few get monthly 3-day training sessions and the chance to focus on one thing: making their start-up a success. This is what the Faculty of Impact is all about. 🎉 Both Irati and Sebas Pronk have been accepted into this prestigious program! That means we’re sharpening our skills, building our network, and can fully focus on making Lumox a game-changer in cancer treatment. With the support of Faculty of Impact, we’re on a mission to selectively kill cancer with light, and bring a powerful precision therapy to patients!

For the Update part, three HPPS members presented. Collin Schouten did a presentation about a book he read called “Thinking fast and slow” by Daniel Kahneman. Ines E. presented about the documentary project. Eirini (Irene) Malamou did her presentation about the mental health Instagram project. For the Thematic part we had two amazing speakers that presented. Sebas Pronk from Lumox presented about a possible revolutionary way to cure cancer using nanobodies and light. Finally, Ed Moret presented about AI. Thank you to all the speakers who took the time out of their day to join us!

Yesterday, UtrechtInc, in collaboration with Business for Life, hosted an open event to explore science and entrepreneurship! 🎉 It was a great success, and we thank everyone who joined! First, our student startup scout, Jelmer van der Velde, introduced the audience to UtrechtInc. Then, Sebas Pronk and Irati Beltrán Hernández from Lumox took the stage and shared their journey towards entrepreneurship, which wasn't straightforward, as both come from academia. Irati explained the science behind their light-activated drug for treating cancer, which is incredibly cool! The audience was captivated by this groundbreaking treatment and participated enthusiastically. 🙌 Thank you, Sebas and Irati, for being so earnest, and thanks to the audience for asking such intriguing questions. The topic of patenting a life science innovation was particularly clarified for many attendees. 💡 Lumox is a promising startup that has recently secured multiple subsidies, facilitating the steps to bring their innovation to market. Good luck with everything that comes your way, Sebas and Irati! 🌟 Stay up to date on Lumox's latest developments by following their LinkedIn page or checking out their website: https://lnkd.in/eVu6aJM5. #BusinessForLife #Lumox #CancerTreatment #NetworkingEvent #Entrepreneurship #Innovation #UtrechtInc

Accomplished something significant—mastered tying a tie and defended my PhD thesis. My thesis was about how to deliver medicines specifically to cancer cells, and thus minimizing side effects for patients. Because of the promising results in our group, we launched a start-up to minimize side effects of cancer treatment. Interested in how we do that? Follow Lumox, or have a look at the brand new website: www.lumoxbiotech.com Grateful for all the support! ❤️
