A huge thank you to Joe Burke, Cole Engstrand, Barry Bassett and the entire VIRESCO AD LLC team for hosting M-RETS at their impressive waste-to-electricity facility in Turtle Lake, Wisconsin! This visit was an eye-opening experience for our team, showcasing how food waste can be transformed into electricity through anaerobic digestion. That electricity generates RECs in M-RETS, enabling electricity consumers to reduce their Scope 2 emissions and take meaningful steps toward decarbonization (while also reducing landfill waste). We also had the privilege of exploring their on-site lab, which features cutting-edge tools like a CO2 analysis machine, the Depak process, and innovative solutions for recycling product packaging to further minimize waste. Thank you for the inspiring tour and for your commitment to sustainable innovation!

M-RETS is excited to be a new Ammonia Energy Association member and our CEO Benjamin Gerber is presenting on global certification processes and standards this afternoon at their annual conference. This is a global industry group looking to decarbonize a critical commodity with many existing and potential applications.

PurposeEnergy – Middlebury is the state’s first food waste to renewable electricity project awarded under the Vermont Public Utility Commission’s Standard Offer Program. Designed to accommodate the high-strength organic waste from food and beverage manufacturers in the Middlebury Industrial Park, the facility can also accept a wide variety of trucked organic waste from other Vermont businesses. As permitted, the plant can process 100,000 gallons of high-strength organics per day into clean water, renewable electricity, and natural fertilizer. M-RETS welcomes this S&P Global report with support fromCoalition for Renewable Natural Gas, European Biogas Association, ERGaR European Renewable Gas Registry aisbl, and Eurogas supporting the work registries like M-RETS are doing to support biomethane/biogas/RNG certificate schemes. "The report demonstrates that there is a solidly regulated biomethane/RNG market in Europe and the US, which provides sustainability, guarantees and transparency; plays an increasingly important role in achieving GHG emissions reductions targets; and supports the economics of new production capacity development."
