About us
The Main Street District is the non-profit organization responsible for providing public space management, economic development, marketing services, and public advocacy for the 36-block area bounded by Gervais, Elmwood, Assembly, and Marion Streets in Columbia, SC. The organization seeks opportunities to fill vacancies in commercial properties by retaining existing downtown businesses and recruiting new ones, expanding the downtown residential base, and creating a safe, clean and friendly downtown environment.

Things are getting spirited and sneaky in the MSD this holiday season as 20+ elves have been hidden in various businesses within the district. 🎄🤭 Patrons of the district are invited to participate in a scavenger hunt to find the elves and enter a giveaway via Instagram stories! We came together one week ago at The Lady to celebrate the progress and momentum happening within our district, not only this past year, but over the last 23 years. 🙌 Our enormous growth and vibrancy is all made possible by our business owners, stakeholders, Yellow Shirt Ambassadors, board members, local politicians, Main Street Dwellers, patrons, workers and more (yes, even you reading this post). A special shoutout to this year’s Chair’s Award winner, Lula Drake Wine Parlour for being Columbia’s first 🥇 James Beard award winner! 📸: Crush Rush

We can't have a celebration without a bar offering local beer. Thank you First Citizens Bank for being the bar sponsor for our Annual Meeting! The Main Street District Annual Meeting is coming up and we would be remiss not to thank our friends at BOUDREAUX for being our presenting sponsor! Many of Boudreaux's projects have contributed to the vibrancy of downtown Columbia, including our Annual Meeting location, The Lady 🏢 👏 Plus, Boudreaux’s own Columbia Studio is an award-winning Main Street District historic preservation project. 🎤 We’re meeting this week for strategic planning and district development discussion, but first, we want to hear from you… 👉 what businesses (locally-owned or nationally recognized…restaurants, retailers, coffee shops & more!) do you want to see in the Main Street District? What matters to you when you come to Main Street (public art, diversity, pop-up events, etc.)? Sound off in our survey: https://lnkd.in/evy4UfNz

This just in! 🚨 The ground floor corner space of 1441 Main will be available for lease via Colliers this fall for retail or restaurant use with the potential for outdoor dining. While Wells Fargo will still have office operations in the building, the branch at the corner of Main St. & Hampton St. is closing come November. With heavy pedestrian traffic from office workers & residents + events at the CMA & Soda City Market, this is an anchor corner for #MainStColaSC. What do you want to see here? Drop a comment!👇

We had a blast participating in Park(ing) Day today interacting with residents, office workers, visitors and students! We want to hear what you want to see in the Main Street District! Take our (very short) survey here: https://lnkd.in/emfjrV-C Thanks to City of Columbia Government for hosting and to all the community organizations participating!
