We are proud to partner with Educate Maine and the University of Southern Maine to expand internship opportunities to first-generation college students. In January, we welcomed Priscilla, a University of Southern Maine student, to intern at the Maine State Chamber of Commerce for the spring semester. Priscilla moved to the United States with her parents when she was 12 from Cape Town, South Africa. While she was born and raised in South Africa, her family is Congolese. She's a Portland HS grad now studying psychology at the University of Southern Maine. Patrick Woodcock, President and CEO of the Maine State Chamber of Commerce adds, “We are so appreciative of Priscilla joining us this summer to build on the Chamber’s housing policy work and bring solutions to addressing Maine’s housing crisis. We are thankful for all the employers bringing students into their workforce -- we strongly believe that integrating work experience into the educational experience will better prepare the next generation of Maine’s workforce.”
