#MakInnovations. The @AirQoProject (Air quality Monitoring Devices for Africa) Journey. AirQo was founded in 2015 at Makerere University College of Computing and Information Sciences to close the gaps in air quality monitoring across Africa. The current low-cost air quality monitors are designed to suit the African infrastructure, providing locally-led solutions to African air pollution challenges. 2024 was defined by remarkable growth at AirQo, we led the way in advancing local and regional collaborations to improve air quality across African cities. AirQo has expanded the monitoring network to more than 12 African cities providing actionable data and information on air pollution affecting over 60 million people living in these cities. With the support of our partners, we continue to leverage AI and low-cost sensors to help African cities have access to local air quality data and information to protect human health.
