Over the past ten years, more and more companies are taking action against wage inequality through voluntary payments. This is a great step forward but we are still far from closing living wage gaps. Trade unions, employers, employers’ organizations and governments have an important role to play, so that private sector approaches to living wage can support labour relations and make sure that workers can expect higher wages in the long term. Last week, our team was honored to help judge a policy competition at the UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy (GPS). Participating teams were presented with a real-world policy prompt, provided by us, and they had one week to come up with actionable recommendations and solutions. We were blown away by the innovative approaches students came up with to address a current supply chain human rights challenge many multinational companies currently face, and we had a great time!
