Huge thanks to Feeding the Carolinas, Second Harvest of Northwest NC, and the incredible work of our MANNA team! After the devastating loss of our warehouse just shy of four months ago, we're thrilled to announce the installation of temporary racking. This significant step increases our storage capacity by approximately 30%, allowing us to better serve our community. Yesterday, we had the privilege to host Governor Joshua Stein as he announced a $1.07 billion budget request to support urgent rebuilding efforts across Western North Carolina in the wake of Hurricane Helene. Governor Stein’s plan aims to provide critical support for Western North Carolina’s recovery, focusing on housing, local economies, infrastructure, agriculture, and essential services. The funding would help rebuild homes for displaced families, revitalize small businesses, and repair damaged roads and bridges. It also includes support for farmers working to restore their land and provides much-needed resources for food banks, schools, and community services—ensuring that no one is left behind in the rebuilding process. Governor Stein emphasized that Western North Carolina cannot wait for recovery. This funding is critical to getting people back on their feet—faster. As part of his visit, he also met with our dedicated volunteers, expressing his gratitude for their tireless efforts in supporting our community during these challenging times. His visit to MANNA highlights the essential role food banks play in disaster response and recovery. We are grateful for his commitment to ensuring that no one in our community is forgotten or left behind. We apologize for being silent on this channel. Since the end of September, we have been responding to the ongoing crisis of Helene. Our story is just one of thousands after Hurricane Helene. The folks here in Western North Carolina are resilient people, and the same holds true for MANNA. In a span of six weeks, we have gone from a destroyed facility on the Swannanoa River to a pop-up distribution point at the WNC Farmers Market, from a new, empty warehouse to one that is now full of food and supplies. The reality is though, Western North Carolina still needs your help. Yes, we are resilient, but we also know that we must rely on the compassion and generosity of others. As the days get colder, let us remember our neighbors in the mountains without electricity. Let us remember the families that have lost their homes. Let us consider all the people who have gone without work these past four weeks. MANNA has always been in the business of helping people when they need it most, and we will continue to do that work moving forward.
