It's a brand new day at Marin Community Foundation. Quite literally. The final phase of our two-year strategic planning process sees the launch of our refreshed brand. A new logo, tag line and website (please visit!) communicates the new energy and ambition of the organization, along with our commitment to creating equity and delivering impact. Much more will be rolling out in the next several weeks. An enormous thanks to our Marin-based branding partner Good Stuff Partners. A Certified B Corp, who guided us through a thoughtful and inclusive journey, and has produced such fresh work. Also, a shout-out to We-Collab | Equity Strategy, who ensured that equity was embedded in every aspect of the brand.

About us
Marin Community Foundation is a leading philanthropic organization that mobilizes the power of community and the resources of philanthropy to advance equity for people, places, and the planet. Since our establishment in 1987, we have worked collaboratively with nonprofit partners and donors to build a better future for Marin County, the greater San Francisco Bay Area, and communities around the globe. We are among the top ten largest community foundations in the country, with more than 800 charitable funds totaling $3 billion in assets. Through our strategic grantmaking, community partnerships, advocacy, impact investing, and pursuit of new ideas, we work collaboratively to develop solutions to the most critical issues of our time.

Want to bring more justice to Marin County residents? Support Legal Aid of Marin. Laura McMahon and her amazing team are enabling all of our neighbors to have equal access to legal representation. Under the stars last night, we celebrated its successes and commitment to this community. Rhea Suh and Community Foundation couldn't be more proud to call LAM a partner.

MCF just launched the Community Power Initiative, a three-year, $30 million initiative. With multi-year, general operating grants, it's designed to ease the administrative burden of nonprofits and increase their flexibility to plan and innovate. It's a historic move for MCF and more proof of how the foundation is mobilizing the power of community. You can read about it here: https://lnkd.in/gCqFKztk

It is with mixed emotions that I share this coming Friday, May 31st, will be my last day at Marin Community Foundation (MCF). After almost 18 years of working on innovative initiatives to leverage technology to further enable philanthropy, it is a good time for me to make a shift in my life (and career). I have had the opportunity to work with amazing people, both MCF staff and trusted technology partners. And what a change in the technology landscape over these years ! We have gone from working at workstations, in an office, paper-based systems and infrastructure in closets to everything mobile, pretty much everything in the cloud, wonderful collaboration platforms and now, beginning to leverage AI in meaningful, productive ways. Exciting times, to be sure. And this post would be incomplete without a shout-out to the wonderful (TAG) Technology Association of Grantmakers with whom I have been involved almost as long as my time with MCF. I have had the honor to serve as board member (now emeritus), Treasurer, and chair of multiple committees over the years. And what a delight to witness - and be part of - the evolution from a consulting-and-volunteer based organization to "TAG 2.0" under the transformative leadership of @Chantal Forster. To be awarded TAG's 2022 Lifetime Achievement Award was definitely a highlight of my entire career. To those who might ask: What next? I don't know yet, I'll take a substantial break to get in some travel, food and wine adventures with friends, and some deep learning and thinking. Wishing all the best to my wonderful team at MCF ! I sincerely hope we will stay in touch.

We're delighted to have MCF's president and CEO, Rhea Suh, profiled in this article from The Chronicle of Philanthropy. The article highlights how a new slate of community foundation leaders are reimagining and redefining the role of community foundations to shift policy, advocate on critical social and environmental issues, and collaborate for change. #philanthropy #communityfoundation #communityengagement
The new leaders' views have the potential of changing the entire community foundation model, making it less a neutral distributor of charitable gifts, said Dana O'Donavan, who leads @Deloitte Consulting's Monitor Institute. "We have to blow up the whole notion of a community foundation," Alesha Washington, president of the Seattle Foundation, said. 📷 : (L to R) Rhea Suh of the Marin Community Foundation Alesha Washington of the Seattle Foundation; Amy Freitag of New York Community Trust and Lee Pelton of the The Boston Foundation. https://bit.ly/3Vyd1nL
