MU staff volunteered at STEAM UW-Stevens Point Day at the Marshfield campus today, leading sessions "The Power Behind Every Switch!" and "What should I know about my H2O?". "The Power Behind Every Switch!" - Students learned about circuits and created a paper flashlight. MU participated in Staab Construction's Construction Career Day event yesterday. We shared information about youth apprenticeships and line worker apprenticeships and what our Journeyman line workers do to keep the electricity on. Dean and Adam demonstrated the equipment they use, electricity transmission, and common causes of power outages. In 2025, the Electrical Safety Foundation International (ESFI) compiled data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to track electrical safety trends in the workplace. 74% of workplace electrical fatalities occurred in non-electrical occupations according to OSHA. 3.1% of electrical fatality causes were from damaged wiring or equipment.
