🚧 Public Works in Action: How Maryland’s Infrastructure Saves the Day 🚧 A routine commute could have taken a turn for the worse today when I experienced a tire blowout on 395 heading into downtown Baltimore. As a business owner, time is money, and with roadside assistance estimating a 6-hour wait, my productivity was at risk. But then, public works came to the rescue—literally! Within minutes, a Maryland Department of Transportation tow truck arrived. Enter Chris Wojcik, a public works professional whose service was not only fast and efficient but completely free. Chris’s exceptional customer service turned what could have been a stressful delay into a seamless solution. With his quick tire replacement, I was safely back on the road, arriving at my meeting on time. Why This Matters: ✅ The Business of Public Works: Behind every smooth commute is the work of professionals like Chris, ensuring that Maryland’s infrastructure operates effectively and reliably. ✅ Value for Taxpayers: This service, funded by tolls, highlights the commitment to making Maryland’s transportation network user-focused and efficient. ✅ Recognition for Unsung Heroes: Public works professionals deserve the spotlight for their dedication to maintaining the systems we often take for granted. This experience also deepens my commitment to championing the mission of the Public Works Experience, where we raise awareness of the incredible work happening above, below, and beyond to keep our infrastructure humming. Thank you, Chris Wojcik, and @TheMDTA, for embodying the very best of public service. • It is with a heavy heart that the Maryland Transportation Authority Police share the passing of retired MDTA Police K9 Ace. Ace joined the MDTA Police in April 2012 and served as a narcotics detection and patrol dog, spending almost nine years keeping his human partner, Senior Officer Keightley, safe. Ace helped to disrupt the flow of dangerous drugs to Maryland communities and beyond, and he tracked down wanted fugitives. Customers and employees at Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) facilities, BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI), and the Port of Baltimore benefitted from Ace’s watchful eye. Equally important, Ace made friends everywhere he went. He frequented schools and community groups, sharing his talents and educating the public. Ace was an admired and respected member of the MDTA Police. Following his retirement in 2021, Ace embraced his new role as a stay-at-home dog. His new priorities included watching over the Keightley family and enjoying well deserved vacations at the beach. Rest easy Ace, and thank you for everything.
