The deadline to have your voice heard is approaching! The U.S. Department of Labor announced a proposed rule to phase out subminimum wage certificates under Section 14(c) of the Fair Labor Standards Act. These certificates allow employers to pay people with disabilities less than the minimum wage. This new rule may be a critical step toward ensuring equity and dignity in the workplace for individuals with developmental and other disabilities. And now, it’s your turn to have your voice heard. Self-advocates, family members, and community advocates are strongly encouraged to submit a public comment by January 17th. This is a valuable opportunity to let inform and educate the DOL know about why people with disabilities deserve fair wages. Reminder that our 2025-2026 Legislative Priorities survey is still open and is now available in Spanish! We are conducting a survey to hear from Massachusetts residents with I/DD, their families and professionals on what policy areas are most important to them as we move into the next legislative session. We would appreciate your responses and if you would share this within your networks! Find the survey here: https://lnkd.in/e-E_-wQm. Find the Spanish version here: https://lnkd.in/eAA7mMZ7. One way that MDDC improves the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and their families is through education and policy change. Every 2 years, we create a “Priority Legislation” list. Our 2023-2024 Priority Legislation included areas like housing and healthcare. We educate our state government about the impact that these priority bills could have on the I/DD community. We do this by meeting with policymakers and providing testimony at the State House. #MAPoli #Legislation #DisabilityPolicy #DisabilityRights #Massachusetts
