  • Breastfeeding can be magical bonding time for new mothers and their babies, but let’s be honest: it can also be one of the most stressful parts of becoming a parent. The cracked nipples. The endless night feeds. The constant questioning—am I producing enough? Is she latching properly? The exhaustion, the anxiety, the self-doubt. Enter: Maven Lactation Consultants. No matter where our members are in their journeys, no matter what their goals are, our feeding experts are always here to listen without judgment, to ease their anxiety, and to provide evidence-based guidance that helps them get where they want to go. In fact, 60% of our members breastfeed longer with the support of Maven. Because when breastfeeding challenges arise, compassionate care can make all the difference.

👋 Hello from the White House! This morning, President Biden and First Lady Dr. Jill Biden hosted the first-ever conference on women's health research, bringing together business and philanthropic leaders, celebrities, advocates, investors, and federal agency representatives to discuss what's needed to advance research in women's health. Our founder & CEO Kate Ryder was honored to be included at the event alongside two of our board members, Jess Lee and Holly Maloney, who have championed women’s health innovation, been critical partners to Maven, and driven more investment in the sector overall. Women weren't required to be included in U.S. clinical research until 1993, and there is still work to be done. According to McKinsey, only 1% of healthcare research and innovation was invested in female-specific conditions beyond oncology in 2020. This lack of investment has dire consequences on women’s health: on average, women are diagnosed with diseases 4 years later than men, and they spend 25% more of their lives in debilitating health than men. Closing the women’s health gap starts with better research. We’re proud to have a seat at the table for these important conversations—because we know that when we invest in women, everyone wins.

  • Last week, our founder & CEO Kate Ryder joined Forbes Senior Editor Maggie McGrath, Elevance Health Chief Health Officer Shantanu Agrawal, M.D., and Mama Glow Founder Latham Thomas at Forbes Healthcare Summit to discuss how we can change the tide in maternal health to drive better outcomes for mothers and their babies. In a wide-ranging conversation about the many challenges of current care models—from the dearth of specialists to a lack of research and transparent data collection—Kate made the case for leveraging technology to not only address core care model issues, but to ultimately ensure that women and families can access the care they deserve. If you've navigated fertility challenges, you know that they can be a labyrinth of confusing diagnoses, complex treatment options, and overwhelming emotions. The journey can feel incredibly isolating, but it doesn't have to be. Sometimes all it takes is an experienced provider listening to your story, affirming your experience, and saying "You’re going to be fine, you just need to be aware of some different things." At Maven, we’re committed to providing care that sees, supports, and stands with our members every step of the way. Our fertility specialists are available 24/7 to deliver personalized, clinically-sound guidance, equip members with the tools that they need to be in the driver's seat of their healthcare, and remind them that they're not alone.

  • The best HR leaders know: employee benefits are only as good as their utilization. While emails, Slacks, and webinars can be important in spreading the word, many organizations overlook their greatest asset for driving benefits engagement: managers. In fact, only 18% of employers say managers at their organization are well-equipped and comfortable discussing benefits with their direct reports. Don't leave your benefits engagement secret weapon on the table. Find out how the most successful companies are transforming their managers into confident benefits advocates—leading to higher utilization, improved health outcomes, and workplaces where employees feel truly supported: https://lnkd.in/gH3XPzm8

  • Earlier today, our founder & CEO Kate Ryder joined Tina Reed from Axios for a conversation about improving postpartum care in the U.S. Here are a few of the insights Kate shared from her decade of experience innovating in the maternal health space: 🩺 Specialized care is critical on the postpartum journey: Postpartum individuals need access to specialists across a broad range of needs, including breastfeeding and pelvic floor support, infant sleep coaching, mental health support, and more. 📱 Digital health solutions can be used to screen for social needs throughout pregnancy and postpartum: 90% of our maternity members complete a mental health screening, and more than 35% of members use our maternal mental health services. 💼 Employers play a powerful role in improving maternal care: About half of pregnancies are covered by corporate health plans. Employers can design benefits that provide more equitable care, as well as influence policy decisions and broader care design. Watch the event recording to learn more about the support new parents need during the postpartum period—and the most effective practices and policies to increase access to postpartum and maternal mental health care: https://lnkd.in/gSmNXKFi

  • This story is a powerful reminder of why Maven exists: to provide compassionate care during life's most challenging and vulnerable moments. This Thanksgiving—and every day of the year—we're grateful for our members (and team members) who trust us to support them on the family-building journeys, for our providers who show up for our members when they need it most, and for our employees and partners who are with us on our mission to make healthcare work for all of us. Thank you for helping us build something better for women and families everywhere.

"In healthcare–and beyond–we’re barreling towards a new year that is fueled by a global mandate for change. Agendas are being reshaped. Coalitions are being redrawn. And in boardrooms and in living rooms this holiday season, diverging views on how to best move forward will be a prominent topic of conversation." During times of change, it can be hard to know how to get things done. In his latest issue of his newsletter, The Preprint, our Chief Medical Officer Dr. Neel Shah reflects on the people he’s spoken to this year who are unusually good at getting things done: ✨ Dr. Rachel Hardeman, Professor of Public Health at the University of Minnesota and Maven Visiting Scientist ✨ Dr. Dannagal Young, Professor of Communication at the University of DelawareAdaeze Enekwechi, CEO of Cayaba Care ✨ Christy Turlington, founder of Every Mother CountsElizabeth Carr, the first baby born from IVF in the U.S. ✨ Robin Marty, Executive Director of WAWC Healthcare (Formerly West Alabama Women’s Center) Learn why Neel says that each of these remarkable women, in their own way, has informed his optimistic view that healthcare is “as fixable as ever.” Read and subscribe to The Preprint here: https://lnkd.in/gnR9eT7S

For far too many mothers—and especially women of color—pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum leads to serious health complications. In fact, the U.S. has the highest maternal mortality rate of any affluent country in the world. Next Wednesday, December 4th at 3:00 pm ET, our founder & CEO Kate Ryder will join Gail K. Boudreaux, President & CEO of Elevance Health, and Latham Thomas, founder of Mama Glow, at Forbes Healthcare Summit to discuss how the healthcare industry can pave the way for safer pregnancies and childbirths, eliminate pregnancy-related health disparities, and create better medical outcomes for mothers and their babies.
