📚✨ Our 10th Annual MPN Holiday Book Giveaway was a beautiful community celebration! ✨📚 With the help of our amazing volunteers, we displayed nearly 1,000 books for kids, teens, and adults to explore. About 300 students from MPN schools joined us to dive into the world of stories and imagination. We’re so grateful to everyone who made this possible: 💙 Children's Book Project and San Francisco Public Library for donating books ✏️ San Francisco’s Kindergarten To College (K2C) for the school supplies donation 🏒 San Jose Sharks for their Mental Health Kit for elementary students 📖 Jamestown Community Center staff for coordinating students 🏫 Chavez Elementary School for welcoming us into their space 🤝 California's Office of Community Partnerships and Strategic Communications (OCPSC) for their support. A huge thank you to our volunteers and partners for creating such a joyful event for our community. This is what building a love for reading looks like! #PromiseNeighborhood #LiteracyForAll #PartnershipsMatter

Yesterday, MEDA co-hosted with the National Promise Neighborhoods Coalition & the William Julius Wilson Institute at Harlem Children's Zone a retirement celebration for Elson Nash. MEDA has had the opportunity to work with Elson for the past decade, as an early grantee of the Department of Education Promise Neighborhoods initiative. Elson's dedication, innovation, and compassion in leading the Promise Neighborhoods work with the federal government have left a lasting legacy through Mission Promise Neighborhood and in communities nationwide. Thank you to Geoffrey Canada, Christian Rhodes, and our partners from across the country for joining to honor Elson's legacy of public service, innovation and impact. On behalf of Mission Promise Neighborhood, MEDA thanks you for your service and partnership, and celebrates you Elson Nash. 🌟 A Win for the Mission: MAP 2030 Endorsed by S.F. Planning Commission! Yesterday, the San Francisco Planning Commission unanimously passed the endorsement of Mission Action Plan 2030. This means the City will prioritize this visionary plan during next year’s budget process and allocate resources to achieve its bold pillars and strategies. ✊🙌 📜 What is MAP 2030? Building on the success of MAP 2020, which stabilized the Mission District through affordable housing, cultural preservation, and community empowerment, MAP 2030 takes this work further. After months of collaboration with City departments, Mission District organizations, and the MAP2030 coalition, we’ve identified five key strategies to guide our path forward: 1️⃣ Community Spaces: Protect community-serving businesses and organizations by ensuring affordable, stable spaces. 2️⃣ Street Conditions: Invest equitably in street cleaning, safety, and maintenance to create dignified, healthy environments. 3️⃣ Cultural Vitality: Celebrate cultural heritage and support arts, traditions, and community-led initiatives. 4️⃣ Affordable Housing Access: Protect and create housing that allows families, seniors, and individuals to thrive in their communities. 5️⃣ Community-based Planning: Champion equity communities in city planning and development decisions. 🌟 The Journey Continues: This victory is a testament to the grassroots collaboration and the dedication of Mission residents and entrepreneurs. A powerful show of support highlighted this milestone: 59 small businesses, community-serving organizations, and coalitions demonstrated their support, and more than 40 community members shared their voices during 2 hours of public comments. We are profoundly grateful to everyone who contributed to this effort. #MAP2030 #CommunityPower #AffordableHousing #CulturalPlacekeeping #EquityInAction #CommunityDevelopment
