Dismantle unequal power relations & patriarchal systems by transforming masculinities & working with men/boy in feminism

About us

MenEngage Alliance is a space for organizations and individuals to come together in solidarity with those most targeted by gender injustice and patriarchal systems to collectively dismantle structural barriers to gender equality, climate and social justice. As a global network, we bring together people and organizations with a shared vision of a world in which gender justice and human rights are recognized, promoted and protected, where all people are equal and free from discrimination and oppression. Our work with men and boys stems from the pioneering work and ongoing leadership of women’s rights and LGBTQI movements. This means we root our understanding of the world in feminist theory and an understanding that patriarchy is a system at the centre of women’s and LGBTQI person’s human rights violations and gender inequalities. The mission of MenEngage Alliance is to transform unequal power relations and dismantle patriarchal systems by: - Transforming patriarchal masculinities and rigid, harmful norms around ‘being a man’ - Working with men and boys on gender justice through intersectional feminist approaches - Building inclusive collaborations from local to regional to global levels - Developing joint actions in partnership with and accountability to women’s rights, gender- and other social justice movements.

  • 📣 Standing Together for #GenderJustice At MenEngage Alliance, we’re proud to partner with Oscar-nominated filmmaker Nisha Pahuja and leading organizations like Equality Now and Equimundo: Center for Masculinities and Social Justice to launch the #StandWithHer campaign, inspired by the powerful documentary To Kill a Tiger. The #StandWithHer campaign is a global initiative that aligns with our mission to engage #men and #boys as allies in the fight against gender-based violence. Together, we aim to: ✅ Empower survivors of sexual assault and GBV to seek justice. ✅ Foster a culture of shared responsibility by engaging men and boys as partners in change. ✅ Prevent GBV through education and narrative transformation. The #StandWithHer campaign is built on four pillars: Public Awareness and Mobilization, Political Advocacy, Education and Prevention, and Media and Social Media campaigns. Look forward to more information about the campaign in due time! Image credit: Kiran in 'To Kill a Tiger' Notice Pictures Inc/National Film Board of Canada/Everett Collection

  • Have you seen the latest powerful film from MenEngage Alliance member, White Ribbon? The film tells a much-needed story of how a boy and those around him are impacted by extreme online content. With its powerful and challenging message, the film is a much-needed wake-up call that we need to act to combat violent messages around being a man, and to offer alternatives that tap into the innate human traits of care, connection, compassion, and support. Before watching the film, please note it covers issues of violence and extremism.

In today’s online world, more and more boys are being groomed by misogynistic influencers. With our latest campaign, My Friend Max Hate, we expose how these toxic personalities prey on young men’s insecurities—fuelling hatred and violence when they’re most vulnerable. Help us inspire boys to reject hate and end gender-based violence, visit MyFriendMaxHate.ca #WhiteRibbon #MyFriendMaxHate

  • How familiar are you with the world's biggest podcasters, who attract vast, mostly male, audiences? This recent Bloomberg article explores the influence of these voices, analysing who they give a platform to, the topics they cover (and the topics they don't), and who is tuning in: 'None of the broadcasters style themselves as political pundits, and their conservative talking points were sandwiched between free-wheeling discussions of sports, masculinity, internet culture, gambling and pranks — making the rhetoric more palatable to an apolitical audience. Still, their popularity is sparking a “very big sea change in terms of who are the voices that matter,” Mark Zuckerberg, Meta Platforms Inc. chief executive officer, said in a conversation with Rogan published Jan. 10. “There’s this wholesale generational shift in who are the people who are being listened to.”' Working in the space of engaging men and boys as allies in gender justice, it is important to take note and have an understanding of these trends in media consumption. Who is setting the narrative, and how can we better influence it? How can we counter harmful narratives and promote healthier alternatives? How can we use digital platforms to foster dialogue, education, and action? How can we ensure men and boys are part of the solution in building a more just and equitable world? Share your thoughts, ideas, and actions below. #GenderEquality #MenAndBoys #MenAsAllies #Feminism 🔗 Read the Bloomberg article here: https://lnkd.in/e3-tfJpY

  • We take this opportunity to express our heartfelt gratitude and thank you all who shared a story or elevated #HowToTalkWithMen in your organisations, programs, and on social media. The campaign would not be possible without you. Looking ahead to 2025, we know the challenge remains: finding more effective ways to call men and boys in on gender and social justice issues. We hope the voices shared in this video, and throughout the campaign, offer you fresh inspiration and ideas. Together, let's step into the new year with renewed energy and a shared commitment to the belief that gender equality becomes possible when men and boys are meaningfully engaged and take actions to break free from restrictive ideas of masculinity. By doing so, men and boys can discover pathways to purpose, fulfilment, and happiness in their own lives while stepping up as allies for women’s rights, LGBTQIA+ rights, and broader social justice.

  • 🌟 "I desire to speak somewhere without bounds; like a man in a waking moment, to men in their waking moments." For the #HowToTalkWithMen campaign, Dr. Mangesh Kulkarni shares the quote above by Henry David Thoreau, and reflects on the challenges and possibilities of engaging men in conversations about gender equality: “In most real-life situations, we find ourselves talking to men who take a social order based on male supremacy for granted, seeing it as natural or even God-given. A great deal of empathy, tact, and imagination are needed to understand their mindset and transform it along pro-feminist lines. The truly heartening conversations are between men who have woken up to the imperative of saying ‘no’ to patriarchy and ‘yes’ to gender justice.” 🌍 Join the #HowToTalkWithMen campaign by MenEngage Alliance as we amplify strategies, stories, and tools to bring men into the journey toward gender justice and equality. 💬 Find out more at: https://lnkd.in/e484Knqm #GenderJustice #MenEngage #TransformingMasculinities #ProFeminist #SocialChange

A quote above about the HowToTalkWithMen campaign that says, "Transformative conversations with men should avoid blaming them for justifying, enjoying and seeking to preserve patriarchal privileges. Instead, they must be gently persuaded to see the socially constructed character and grave ill effects of dominant gender identities on their own lives and on those of their loved ones.

The next step would be to discuss with them feasible ways and means of bringing about lasting changes that can cumulatively usher in an equitable gender order. Only such constructive and continuing dialogue can save humankind from the stranglehold of age-old patriarchy."
  • 💬 "It’s okay to not be okay." For the #HowToTalkWithMen campaign, Inam Ul Haq highlights the importance of addressing the emotional burdens and societal pressures men face on their journey of self-improvement. He challenges outdated notions of men as emotionless and emphasizes their capacity for reflection and vulnerability. 🧠 Let’s break the stigma around mental health and encourage men to seek help through open conversations. Together, we can normalize emotional well-being for everyone. 💙 📖 Learn more about the campaign: https://lnkd.in/e484Knqm #HowToTalkWithMen #MentalHealth #EmotionalWellbeing menengage alliance pakistan
