A RICKENBACKER PLAN: A draft of a master plan for the Rickenbacker Causeway, the only link of Key Biscayne with the rest of Miami-Dade County, is to be presented in Key Biscayne’s Community Center on Dec. 4. The county’s Department of Transportation and Public Works and Village of Key Biscayne staff will deal with the village’s hot-button concern at 6 p.m. in the community center’s Lighthouse Room. Objectives, according to an announcement, are to improve traffic flow, reduce traffic congestion during Virginia Key events, separate bicycles from pedestrian traffic, and develop high-quality environmentally resilient facilities. The announcement does not mention repair or replacement of the Bear Cut Bridge. https://lnkd.in/eFUPNVXX #FYIMiami #MiamiTodayNews 3KeyBiscayne #RickenbackerCauseway

AREA LIVING COST DOWN: South Florida’s cost of living rose 2.7% over the 12 months ended Oct. 31, well below the 7.4% jump in area costs for the same period a year earlier and far under the 9.6% increase for the period ended Oct. 31, 2022. The last time the 12-month rise was so small for the period was a 1% increase in 2020. The cost of food for the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach region rose 2.2% during the period, according to data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, though prices for fruits and vegetables rose 7.7% just from August to October. Lights, Camera, Incentives! County funding big film productions Miami-Dade is set to be the backdrop to upcoming film and video productions as incentives lure more projects into the community. Last December, said Marco Giron, chief of film and entertainment at the Miami-Dade County Office of Film and Entertainment, “the board of county commissioners passed a resolution to incentivize production with the creation of the High Impact Film Fund program, and in today’s market, we understand that any project before it gets greenlit, the first question is, ‘What is the incentive where the project is set to take place?’.” https://lnkd.in/eQpStWki #MiamiTodayNews #filminmiami #filminflorida #MiamiFilm #MiamiDadeFilm #FilmProduction #IncentivesForFilm #MiamiEntertainment

BREAKING NEWS: Wynwood’s holiday gift may be louder music In anticipation of the busy holiday season, Miami may roll out new noise standards for Wynwood following the expiration of a previous experimental program that exempted the area from the city’s usual nighttime restrictions. Miami city commissioners are to decide today (11/21) on an updated noise ordinance for the Wynwood Neighborhood Revitalization District that introduces stricter decibel limits and weeknight hours of operation. If approved, the one-year pilot program will permit establishments to keep playing music later into the night, provided sound levels remain below 68 decibels and that open-air venues install sound-limiting devices to minimize noise impact on the surrounding community. https://lnkd.in/egEQWRCC #MiamiTodayNews #Wynwood #Miami #CityofMiami

Opinion There’s no exact science to spreading limited county cash Already facing inevitable new cash crunches, Miami-Dade County has been tossed a hot potato as a cultural pillar, the Frost Science Museum, arrives to seek financial aid. Many worthy calls on the county’s wallet are conceptual: transportation, housing, social services, aid to the homeless and so on. Yet the fact that the county relies on taxes limits aid; its wallet only gets fatter to spend more if it collects more from our bank accounts. https://lnkd.in/e9DJCPd3 #MiamiTodayNews #Opinion #MiamiToday #MiamiDadeCounty #FrostScienceMuseum
