Information Services

We are on a mission to help Michigan become a state where the majority of working individuals are also employee owners.

About us

The Michigan Center for Employee Ownership (MICEO) seeks to grow employee owned businesses in Michigan by educational and other resources to business owners and their network of advisers. MICEO provides these resources via their website, social media, webinars, our own hosted or co-hosted sessions, or as an individual presentation within a regional or statewide conference. Employee Ownership can help business owners meet several goals or desired objectives such as: achieving a financially successful ownership transition (partial or full), provide the owner with some cash now with more to be received later (“take some chips off the table”), engage the employees in the operation by giving them an equity stake in the business, and/or maintain the company’s legacy in the community after the owner’s exit. Most business owners and their advisors aren’t fully aware of all the employee ownership options or advantages that they can receive by selling the business to their workers. We help these owners explore all the exit options. If employee ownership isn’t a good fit, they can move on to other options. If it is a good fit, we help them find the appropriate resources to make their business employee owned and enjoy a variety of benefits.

  • With the end of the year quickly approaching, now is a great time to manage your tax liability for 2024. Here are a couple of things for business owners to consider as we approach the end of the year: 1. Meet with your tax professional to review the legitimate options available to you. 2. Get a good handle on your estimated tax liability. What is your projected profit for the year–to–date actual and anticipated amount in December? 3. Do you have unpaid receivables or other debts due to you that can be written off? 4. Can you accelerate deductions (like capital expenditures) that were planned for 2024 into this year? Having access to timely profit and loss statements and keeping in contact with your accountant/tax professional is key to estimating your tax liability and executing tax planning strategies.

  • Thanksgiving is that day of the year when we come together to celebrate family traditions. The family will gather to witness someone carve the turkey, stuff themselves with dressing, cover their mashed potatoes with gravy, and consume many other home-cooked holiday favorites. It is a time to catch up on what is happening in everyone's lives - the highs, the lows, and the everyday stuff. A time for other traditions like a game of football in the backyard or on the TV (can the Lions pull out a win this year?), setting up the Holiday ornaments, or the 24-hour endless loop of "A Christmas Story." Make sure to help all of your family enjoy this wonderful holiday, even those with ones who you might not get along with.... it is a time to give thanks! It is also a time to think of those who are less fortunate. Take time to do something for those who are in need. Consider volunteering at a kitchen, visiting and contributing to a shelter, or spending time at a community activity that will support the less fortunate. There is nothing like saying thanks by putting a smile on the face of someone you don't know. #Thankful #HelpingHand #MICEO #EmployeeOwnership
