On Monday, MISO’s Kandi Hughes, JD, MBA and Brandon D. Morris, APRᐩM participated in the inaugural AABE Day at the Capitol in Arkansas. As President and Vice President of the American Association of Blacks in Energy - Arkansas Chapter (AABE), they gave remarks on the historical significance of AABE as well as the chapter’s local initiatives. We’re closing out Black History Month on a powerful note! The AABE Arkansas Chapter made history with its inaugural AABE Day at the Capitol on Monday, February 24th! Chapter President Kandi Hughes, JD, MBA and Vice President Brandon D. Morris, APRᐩM represented the chapter at the Arkansas Legislative Black Caucus meeting during the Arkansas State Legislature’s 95th General Assembly Regular Session. Kandi gave remarks honoring Derek Dyson, former President and CEO of Today's Power, Inc. and AABE Arkansas Chapter member who passed away suddenly in October 2024. She also presented information about AABE, emphasizing its mission to advance Black energy professionals, serve as an energy policy resource, and drive equitable access to the energy sector. Following the meeting, Representative Denise Jones Ennett posthumously honored Derek with a Citation recognizing his impact and leadership in the energy industry, and we look forward to sharing the video presentation and Citation with Derek’s family. In 2026, the AABE Arkansas Chapter will host the Inaugural Derek A.
