We are kicking off our annual "Bring on the Butter" fundraiser today! As you've seen in recent media coverage, times are challenging for smaller independent cinemas. It is a struggle with high operations costs, box office numbers being down (writer's strike), maintenance issues, etc. Although we are getting by, it's not enough to support the Milford Independent Cinema, a 501c3 non-profit. Independent cinemas are more than just places to watch movies—they’re vital community hubs that unite people! Here’s why they’re so important: Supporting Local Art & Culture: We showcase indie films, local talent, and unique stories that larger chains often overlook. Community Connections: We create spaces for neighbors to gather, spark conversations, and build relationships. Economic Impact: Independent cinemas support local economies by partnering with nearby businesses and other non-profits. Preserving History: Many small theaters are landmarks and preserve the charm and character of their communities. Please consider supporting the arts in your year-end giving. We have set a goal of $15k. Any amount, big or small helps to keep our special independent cinema open. Remember, all donations are tax-deductible. Donate Now @ https://shorturl.at/Tg0K0 Thank you for your continued support and care. #milfordmi #bringonthebutterfundraiser

The Detroit Free Press did a great piece about the current state of Independent Cinemas and Art Houses in Michigan. Rising costs, competition from streaming services and the various writer strikes are kaing it harder and harder to keep the doors open. We look for creative ways to bring our customers programming that they want to see on the big screen - sometimes that's first run and sometiems it's classics like our Grease Sing-a-long! We're grateful to have a wonderful all-volunteer board that keeps this cinema running smoothly. And without the continued support from the community and our sponsors, we might have been one of the casualties. How can you help us or your local cinema? Become a member. Buy a gift card. Sponsor a film. Rent the cinema.

We've are honored to be selected as part of a film tour at small independent cinemas throughout Michigan to showcase the Marqueetown - directed by Joseph Beyer and Jordan Anderson - on Saturday, April 13, 2024. No one fights to preserve a multiplex, but some people will risk everything to save a marquee. Through booms and busts, Delft Theatres Inc. - and its innovative gem, The Nordic - endured in Marquette for almost 100 years, even as the world changed endlessly around them. Local kid Bernie Rosendahl’s modern crusade to restore the historic arthouse to its former glory leads filmmakers to discover a hidden cinema empire in the Upper Peninsula. Portraying the fascinating history of motion pictures through one iconic screen - and featuring dozens of real-life Marquette locations and characters - Marqueetown is the true story of chasing your dreams, redefining failure and success, and reembracing the enduring magic of movies. Q&A with the cast, crew and subjects involved in the project following each screening. Made over the past year with local involvement from Superior View Photography, Marquette Regional History Center, Peter White Public Library, Vierling Restaurant, Flagstar National Bank, Landmark Inn, Airbnb Hosts, and Remie’s. Special support has come from The Delft Bistro and The Honorable Distillery, central locations in the film. 100% of the ticket sales are benefiting the MIC The cast and crew will be in attendance #marqueetown #independentcinemas #themic #SpecialScreening

Corporate Partners are a critical component to our success. The support and sponsorships help us keep costs down but also allows to create more diverse programming such as our sensory screenings and students of the month program. They’re support also helps fund specialty series like our ‘Salute to Spielberg’ (thanks to HuronValleyStateBank Milford-Highland ) If you’re a corporation looking to support the arts please consider giving us a call. Or if you work for a company that matches donations please see if we qualify - we are a 501c3 nonprofit. Let’s work together to keep the movie magic alive!

A new year means a new board. Please help us congratulate our new officers and welcome our new board members. Cheers to an exciting 2024! President - Stefanie Farquharson Vice President - Bryan Gutierrez Treasurer - Diane Perry Secretary - Steve Chisik Member Representative - Richard Trice Also, please welcome our newest board members: Andrew Lewis: After majoring in film during college, Andrew has diligently documented every movie he's watched for the past decade on his Letterboxd account. As a father of four, one of his greatest joys is introducing his favorite films to his children. Alongside his cinematic passion, Andrew finds pleasure in reading, playing the guitar, and spending quality time with his wife, Ashley, in downtown Milford. Julie Hill-Lin Milford resident, and local Entrepeneur. As owner of Eleven Marketing and Consulting, she helps small to mid-sized businesses create long term marketing solutions. With over 30 years of experience (with 17 of those in the movie advertising business) she wants to share her knowledge and expertise with others. Julie is also co-owner of Milford restaurant Lei Ting Blue Pearl with her husband Tom Lin. A staple in the community for over 20 years, they rebranded the restaurant in 2022, and reopened with a more fusion menu, sushi bar and cool atmosphere. Julie's feet are firmly planted in the community as an ambassador for the Huron Valley Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Milford Business Association and a part of the non-profit Grant Girls. Julia Long-Ackland Julia comes to the board from our volunteer corps. Her sales background is varried from media to picture frames and in a galaxy long ago, far far away, financials. (They made a movie of her last firm.) She was looking for something to do as crafting is too much a cliche in retirement. Movies have always been dear to her heart. Please say high when next you see her swabbing the floor or scooping popcorn in her glamorous new position as board member.
