Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending AI Everything, an outstanding AI Conference that delved into some of the most crucial aspects of Artificial Intelligence today. The event featured discussions on several important topics including investing in AI, AI-driven economic development and AI research and innovation. I also had the pleasure of meeting four inspiring woman-owned AI-powered startups on behalf of Mindshift Capital. I was impressed by the breadth of applications and the universal relevance of the conference topics. It's clear that AI is not just a trend, but a transformative force that will continue to shape our world in profound ways. I also loved being back in Expo City (for the first time since COP28 UAE!) and catching up with friends and colleagues including Sherihan Khalil, Rasha Salama, Peter Brady, Dina Nimer and Colin Judd Whether you are in government, finance, healthcare, manufacturing, or any other industry, the insights gained from this conference are incredibly valuable. Great session on #capital #allocation by #LPs and timing the market. The 2021 #vintage funds were high cost - LPs are now pacing themselves after the 18 month reups. Today’s market requires more diligence, discipline and diversification. Advice to #GPs: 🪭 be very transparent about your track record since it might take 9-10 years for a fund to be successful. 🏮 do what you say you’re going to do. Stick to your #thesis. 🎏 create a strategy of longevity - this is multi decade potentially 🪅 when raising from #family offices, think about how your fund thesis aligns with their business interests (innovation, #women, #climate). One of the things that brings me most joy in my life is the work I do as a gender lens investor (definition: investing that takes into consideration gender-based factors across the investment process to advance gender equality and better inform investment decisions"). I've met the most incredible women in this journey - in particular, Heather Henyon who has rockstar status in this field and set up Mindshift Capital of which I am an LP. One thing that amazes and delights me is the number of female founded start-ups that seek to solve sustainability challenges. I love the tenacity of these women who understand societal and environmental complexities and just think, 'how can we solve this problem?'.
