President Museveni Commissions the Mirama-Kabale 132kV Transmission Line and associated substations President Yoweri Museveni today, 12th February 2025, commissioned the 132kV Mirama-Kabale transmission line and its associated substation at Hamuko Village, Hamurwa Subcounty, Rubanda District. The event is part of the President’s three-day Parish Development Model (PDM) tour in the Kigezi sub-region and marks a significant milestone in addressing the region’s long-standing power challenges. Construction of the power line began in December 2020, and the line was officially switched on December 21, 2024, bringing much-needed relief to residents. The commissioning is expected to provide lasting solutions to the frequent power outages that have affected the Kigezi sub-region, particularly Kabale District. This infrastructure development aligns with the government’s broader agenda to enhance rural electrification, boost economic activities, and improve the quality of life for Ugandans. The new power line will play a crucial role in supporting local businesses, promoting industrial growth, and stimulating socio-economic transformation in the region. The event was attended by high-ranking government officials, including the Vice President, H.E. Jessica Alupo, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, and several Ministers, Members of Parliament, and District Leaders. Hon. Ruth Nankabirwa, Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, led the delegation from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD), accompanied by Permanent Secretary Eng. Irene Bateebe, Commissioner for Rural Electrification Department(ReUD) Eng. Abdon Atwine, Assistant Commissioner for Electric Power Development (EPD) Eng. Edward Baleke, among others. The Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) was represented by its CEO, Mr. Joshua Karanaji, his Deputy, Eng. Matsiko and staff. Other key stakeholders, including representatives from the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) and the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL), were also in attendance. The commissioning of the Mirama-Kabale transmission line underscores the government’s commitment to energy sector expansion and infrastructure modernization, reinforcing Uganda’s path toward sustainable and inclusive development.
