Planning an international getaway? Generally, Medicare does not cover health care services when you're traveling abroad, with a few exceptions: ☑️ Emergency services onboard a ship within the territorial waters of the U.S. when the ship is within six hours of a U.S. port. The doctor must also be legally allowed to provide medical services on a cruise ship. ☑️ Medically necessary services in a foreign country under specific circumstances, such as if a medical emergency occurs in the U.S. but the foreign hospital is closer, or during travel through Canada without unreasonable delay between Alaska and another U.S. state. Should these exceptions apply, you're still responsible for the usual deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance as if you were in the U.S. However, in most cases, you'll be responsible for 100% of the costs. Traveling should be about making memories, not worrying about coverage. Whether you're exploring new horizons or visiting loved ones, our team is here to help ensure you're prepared for any health care needs abroad.
