🔎If you're a current student or recent grad exploring sustainability careers, this internship info session is a must-watch! Last week, I hosted an insightful panel discussion on securing impactful sustainability-related internships through our Sustainability Initiative Internship Program (SIIP) and the Sloan Social Impact Fund (SSIF). Our three panelists—Nisha, Nicolas, and Clara—shared candid advice on navigating the internship search, preparing for interviews, and leveraging their experiences to shape long-term career goals. Key Takeaways: 🔹 Explore different pathways. Testing out various interest areas helps clarify where your skill set fits best. For example, while startups may seem like the go-to for sustainability work, broader options like venture capital or policy can provide unexpected opportunities. 🔹 Be proactive in shaping your role. Internships can be structured, but there’s room to take initiative. One panelist split time between strategy work and a sustainability-focused project, allowing them to deepen their expertise while delivering value to their employer. 🔹 Climate careers require intentional preparation. Unlike traditional career paths, sustainability roles can be vague, with high barriers to entry. Gaining technical knowledge through hands-on projects, experiential learning, or even podcasts can help you stand out. 🔹 Apply the same rigor to climate roles as any other career path. Instead of saying, “I want to work in climate,” without a clear next step, reflect on what you enjoy and where you can contribute. Climate jobs span finance, operations, strategy, and policy—understanding different roles will provide clarity on the right fit for you. For those who couldn’t attend, you can watch the full session here: https://lnkd.in/eVbYTXHp A huge thank you to our panelists Nisha Patel, Nicolas C., Clara Østergaard Christensen for their thoughtful insights and to everyone who joined the conversation!
