  • #MeetOurTeam: Andy Kricun, P.E., Managing Director Moonshot Missions is comprised of passionate team members who strive to make a difference for communities in need. As one of Moonshot’s Managing Directors, Andy’s main role is to draw from his experience as a former water utility manager and engineer to provide technical support to his teammates. His service on federal and state environmental justice advisory councils also enables him to recommend community-based approaches to client challenges. Andy believes the most important thing about Moonshot is the universal commitment to use extensive public and private sector experience to help lower-income communities with their drinking water and wastewater challenges: “I am committed to making a difference for those who need help the most, so I am very grateful when I can contribute in any way that helps the public good.” Andy joined the team because he believes in Moonshot’s mission to help underserved communities. He believes George Hawkins’s leadership and vision are unique in the water sector, and he is grateful to have a chance to work toward George’s vision to assist environmental justice communities. Outside of work, Andy enjoys spending time with his wonderful wife, two amazing children, and four cats. He loves traveling, music, reading, and sports. Andy says, “I believe very strongly that every community, every household, and every person deserves safe drinking water and clean waterways at an affordable rate. I am grateful for the opportunity to work for Moonshot and serve its mission to help communities who need help the most.” Meet the whole Moonshot team: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/gXSUj8DD #Team #ManagingDirector #Director #Water #Wastewater

  • New Publication Alert! Moonshot MissionsTanvi Nagpal, Rania Bashar, PhD, PE, and Reshet S. Gebremariam recently published an article, “Spatial Inequality in Water Access in the US: Case Studies and Solutions,” in the Journal of Water, Sanitation & Hygiene for Development. Their paper describes how space, race, and income co-determine inequality in access to water in the US, highlighting both urban (Gary, Indiana) and rural (Eastern Coachella Valley, California) contexts. Through these case studies, they reveal how patience and practical technical assistance can help underinvested communities to access federal and local funding. Additionally, the authors share practical insights and recommendations for working with under-resourced communities. • Moonshot staff members Genevieve Mancuso, P.E. and Joy Pearson EIT, MBA recently attended a site visit and project kickoff meeting for the Wigwam Mutual Water Company (WMWC) PFAS Treatment Pilot Project. This project will pilot-test three treatment technologies, including electrocoagulation, to remove Per- and Polyflouroalkyl Substances (PFAS) from WMWC’s drinking water. The utility’s source groundwater aquifer is currently contaminated with PFAS from nearby military activity. This project is funded by an Emerging Contaminants in Small or Disadvantaged Communities grant from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), which Moonshot assisted WMWC in obtaining. Moonshot will continue to support the utility by reviewing engineering deliverables, submitting documentation required for grant compliance, and ensuring ongoing communication between all project stakeholders. • Pleased to look back at the talented and diverse team from Moonshot Missions that attended WEFTEC in New Orleans. Anniestacia Denton, PE, CDT, IAM, Marguerite Sheehan, and Ayako Tischler each served as role models for emerging voices, and Ayako was honored as a graduate of the Water Leadership Institute. George Hawkins and Natalie Hawkins met with friends and allies to discuss how to serve the many utilities in communities that don’t have the access or resources to attend these programs. George also spoke, highlighting approaches to innovation and technology adoption and discussed the critical need for agency leaders to tell stories to their ratepayers about improvements to performance at lower costs. Founder and CEO of Moonshot Missions

Excited to be in a packed room of 250 of my favorite people - drinking water and wastewater operators. Honored that Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities has asked me to open their annual operator workshop. Will focus on how essential operators are to the future of clean water and how they can lead change based on their unique and special knowledge. And how Moonshot Missions can help.
