The momentum of growth at The University of Texas at Dallas is going strong! Excited to see the progress on the construction of a performance hall for the Bass School at UT Dallas! The groundbreaking was last fall. The Beck Group is leading construction. The nearly 67,000-square-foot space, designed by L.A. architectural firm Morphosis, is all about bringing people together – students, faculty, alumni, and the broader Dallas community beyond campus – for incredible experiences of the arts, music, and culture. Construction progress over the past few months at the Performance Hall and Music Building site at the O'Donnell Athenaeum, UT Dallas, with The Beck Group and EJ Smith Construction: (1) Foundation and Structural Work – Grade beams, piles, and pile caps installed, forming the primary structural system. These elements ensure stability, prevent settlement, and control vibrations—critical for the performance hall’s acoustic integrity and long-span roof structure. (2) Mechanical Plenum and Infrastructure – Bottom level slab poured for the mechanical plenum below seating, with grade beams and pile caps in place. The plenum will house HVAC systems, allowing for efficient airflow while minimizing noise disruption in the performance space. (3) Back-of-House Development – Slab on grade completed for backstage areas, providing a durable foundation for stage crews, equipment storage, and musician preparation zones. The fall edition if the The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Florida/Caribbean Architect feature the USF Judy Genshaft Honors College building on the cover. Morphosis, FleischmanGarciaMaslowski Architecture,The Beck Group and so many others worked so hard to make this vision a reality, and now these study lofts are some of the most favorite places to study on campus.

What is biophilic design? Arne Emerson, Partner at Morphosis, an architectural practice and design firm based in Los Angeles, founded in 1972 by Pritzker Prize laureate Thom Mayne, explains with precision the meaning of this highly relevant concept in architecture today.
