  • Turns out irrevocable trusts are, well, irrevocable. Rupert Murdoch, 93, sought to amend his irrevocable trust to grant his eldest son, Lachlan Murdoch, control over the family’s media assets, including Fox News and News Corp, upon his death Murdoch fears his other children would take his media empire to the left. The existing trust allocates equal voting rights to four of Murdoch’s children—Prudence, Elisabeth, Lachlan, and James—ensuring shared control after his passing. The proposed amendment faced opposition from Prudence, Elisabeth, and James, who argued it would disproportionately empower Lachlan and potentially marginalize their influence. A Nevada probate commissioner ruled against Murdoch’s request, stating that he and Lachlan acted in “bad faith” and described the effort as a “carefully crafted charade” to cement Lachlan’s control. Prudence, Elisabeth and James have expressed a hope for reconciliation. Rupert plans to appeal.
