Media Fellow Atlantic Council | founder, mtf.tv's meet the future (mtf)

When my train pulled into Union Station this morning, Bagpipers played “Amazing Grace” with NYPD. Every single person stopped quite literally in their tracks. #neverforget what happened Sept. 12 -- we all came together. Trust me, the old guard media executives will stop at nothing to divide us. Today in NYC, I was reminded to #neverforget how much we have in common. 🇺🇸 It was really humbling to staff and support Blue Star Families CEO Kathy Roth-Douquet on the USS Intrepid today where she took time out of her incredibly busy schedule to pack meals for 9/11 Day alongside David Paine and America250 chairwoman Rosie Rios. These leaders walk the walk and show up to #DOYOURPART for our country and our common defense. 🇺🇸 🙌🏻💪🏼cc: Edmund S. • Apple day is going to have to make room for a big week in the intersection of defense and technology (sorry iPhone 16 hopefuls, M4 moguls, Arm, and AAPL investors). - Alan Estevez announced, on behalf of the Us Department Of Commerce, a new interim final rule subjecting quantum, semiconductor, and GAA FET technology and manufacturing tech to export controls. - Mary O'Brien spoke to the tech doomerism and optimism she saw at a cybersecurity conference, bringing perspective to the debate by writing in our column that cybersecurity should be undertaken for sake of technology's limitless benefits. - Mike Bloomberg, Kevin Cirilli's former boss at Bloomberg, was just appointed Chair of the Defense Innovation Board. - Tech could be having its Big Tobacco moment, where founder's visions of borderless digi-lands are clashing against assertions of national sovereignty by governments, according to Tala Michel Issa. Naturally, outside of tech, the future is not stopping for anyone. The NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration is revising its solar storm rating system as sun spots and solar flares hit 23-year records, while farmers in northern Nigeria used funds from Google and International Rescue Committee to pre-emptively respond to floods using AI. Below are selections from this week's newsletter, where you can read her contribution in full: Telegram Messenger CEO Pavel Durov's attempt to make stablecoin transactions a central feature of the app may invite regulation to the crypto space due to his role as an instigator of "culture war", illicit activity on the platform, and a lack of privacy. cc: Sander Lutz, Decrypt Accenture UK & Ireland finds women business leaders are nearly twice as likely as male business leaders to have "tech expertise". The UK leads Europe in tech-savvy boardrooms (23%, a 19% increase over last year), showing the emerging role of tech in business, reports Verdict Apple's pivot away from Samsung Electronics dependence and towards TSMC allowed it to make first party chips. That same move grew demand for TSMC products across a variety of sectors, meaning it may have a bigger market cap than Apple by 2030. cc: The Motley Fool Lt. Gen. Mary O'Brien (Ret.), in her first article with us: "Is [the risk of not mainstreaming responsible AI use education] a risk we're willing to take? I'd rather meet the future knowing we’ve done everything possible to use AI to tip the scales towards a more ... secure future." The SCOPE Act (HB 18), a Texas law requiring companies identify minors and filter content according, just got partially blocked by a federal court for the threat it poses to online free speech, echoing numerous legal battles across the country, per Verge CNBC: Some reservations about the retaliatory measures for businesses and individuals skirting that ban are held by one of voting judge of the panel of Brazil's federal supreme court judges that unanimously agreed to uphold bans on X.
