Senior Vice President at Comprehensive Benefit Services, Inc., A Division of HUB Retirement & Wealth Management

On Friday, Dec 6, 2024 the Tyler Perry movie The Six Triple Eight opened in selected theaters around the country. My mother served in the 6888 Postal Battalion and was a Staff Sergeant. My family traveled together from DC to attend the opening near Baltimore MD. We wore t-shirts designed by our daughter Lindsey to show our solidarity and how proud we were of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. My sister was able to see the opening on Friday in Dayton OH. The commander of the 6888, Major Charity Adams was from Dayton. There was an outstanding display of memorabilia and information at the theater. The children of Major Adam's were also in attendance. My sister was able to share some information on our mother to all of those who were present. The movie gave us an opportunity to see what these Black women were able to endure and accomplish when no one thought they would be successful. I now know why our mother never wanted to go on a cruise. It was truly moving to see our mother's name in the credits at the end of the movie. The Women of the 6888 including our mother were all awarded a Congressional Gold Medal in 2021. The movie will begin showing on Netflix on Friday, December 20, 2024. Please be sure to see it with your family. It will be a film that will inspire you, infuriate you, and that you will never forget. There is now a monument to the 6888 in Fort Leavenworth KS. By Proclamation September 16 of each year is now known as the National 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion Day. Mom, thank you so much for your service. It is because of you that Robin and I are the persons we are today. Your influence is still present in us, even though you are no longer with us. We love you and are so very proud of you.
