Meet Bruiser! ❤️ This brave 5-month-old mix was rescued from the woods in Alabama and adopted by his devoted owner, Mark. Bruiser's journey at NVS has been long, challenging, and mysterious - primarily due to his severe anemia. After multiple hospital stays, 6 blood transfusions (‼️), and an inconclusive endoscopy, his dedicated team—Drs. Trzil, Sessions, Armstrong, and Smola—decided an exploratory surgery was his best option to find the source of his problems. They discovered a jejunal arteriovenous fistula 🩸 !! This is a RARE occurrence with only a few documented cases and was suspected to be rupturing intermittently, causing Bruiser's anemia. A resection of the affected intestinal segment was preformed and Bruiser recovered from surgery beautifully. Ultimately, the surgery should prove curative and Bruiser will be able to live a normal life! What an amazing story! 👏🏼 Mark tirelessly supported Bruiser, despite rising medical costs. Thankfully, the NVS Cares Foundation stepped in to help cover a portion of these expenses. Cash came into our hospital because he was hit by a car 🚕. He has a few human kids at home that he helps take care of, and they drew eyebrows on him! We thought it was the cutest and funniest thing ever 🤣👀! When he arrived to our hospital he was bright and alert, all of his diagnostic tests were within normal limits. We sent him home with some pain medications and recommended 2-weeks of strict rest 💛

FELINE SUCESS STORY! 😻 Everyone, meet Molly! Molly presented to our ER Department for decreased appetite, weight loss, and lethargy. After bloodwork, it was found that her kidney values were doubled and even tripled the normal range 🤯. Molly was hospitalized and transferred to our Internal Medicine Department where Dr. Sessions aggressively treated her kidney infection. After three days with IV fluids, antibiotics, and anti-nausea medications, her kidney values were low enough that she could be sent home. NVS nurses taught her owners how to give subcutaneous fluids at home so her kidneys can stay hydrated. A few months later, Molly's kidney values were virtually back in the normal range! 👏 Dr. Sessions and his team went above and beyond for Molly and her family. They continue to give her SQ fluids at home and recheck blood work to ensure her kidneys are happy and healthy!
