Welcome Avangrid CEO Pedro Azagra to the NHEC Board of Trustees! In partnership with NHEC, Avangrid hosted Connecticut’s first-ever Hispanic Energy Roundtable, bringing together 15 Hispanic leaders to tackle energy challenges. During the event, CEO Pedro Azagra announced Avangrid’s new membership with NHEC and the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators (NHCSL). We’re excited to welcome Azagra to our Board of Trustees, where his leadership will help address the 20% higher energy burden Hispanic households face and advocate for policies that empower our community, which contributes $3.6 trillion annually to America’s GDP. Together, we’re amplifying Hispanic voices in energy policy. Welcome to the team, Pedro and Avangrid! #HispanicEnergy #EnergyEquity #Avangrid #NHEC

Hispanic households bear the brunt of a 20% higher energy burden than the median. It's time to speak out together!
About us
The National Hispanic Energy Council exists to unify the strength of America’s diverse Hispanic populations into a single voice that highlights our perspectives on something all Americans need: affordable and accessible energy. Hispanic households bear a 20% heavier cost burden than the average American family, and persistently high energy prices and rampant inflation have underscored the need to ensure that Hispanic families, entrepreneurs, workers and small businesses nationwide see some relief. The Council is building a bipartisan coalition of leaders of Hispanic groups across the country, and will help educate elected officials, policy makers and the Hispanic public on what good energy policy choices look like.

The National Hispanic Energy Council (NHEC) proudly supports the Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024, championed by Senator Joe Manchin and Senator John Barrasso. This legislation addresses long-standing delays in the energy permitting process, promoting a balanced approach that benefits both clean energy projects and traditional energy sources. “Our Hispanic communities and other underserved populations often face higher energy costs and limited access to the benefits of a diversified energy mix,” says NHEC Vice Chairman Matthew Gonzales. “This bill addresses these disparities by streamlining the permitting process for all energy types.” Thank you, Senators Manchin and Barrasso, for your leadership and commitment to energy equity! Discover how this Act will transform energy access and affordability ⬇

#ICYMI NHEC Board President Julio Fuentes sheds light on how Connecticut's energy policies disproportionately impact #Hispanic communities. With 67% of Hispanic children in financial hardship—50% higher than the state average—high energy costs only add to the burden. State policies have led to Connecticut having some of the highest residential natural gas and electricity prices in the country. With Hispanic families facing an estimated 20% higher energy burden, it's crucial for our communities to understand the real reasons behind these costs and to advocate for policies that provide affordable, reliable energy for all. What steps can we take to ensure energy policies are equitable for every community? 🔊 Urgent Call to Action: Revising Clean Hydrogen Regulations! 🌍 The National Hispanic Energy Council (NHEC) urges the IRS to revise the proposed clean hydrogen production credit (45V) regulations. The current rules could hinder clean hydrogen investments and job creation, disproportionately impacting Hispanic communities already struggling with a 20% higher average energy burden. We're advocating for policies that: ✅ Support a lower carbon future ✅ Include diverse offtake arrangements and technologies ✅ Ensure clean hydrogen benefits reach all communities How can we ensure that clean energy policies are inclusive and equitable?
