  • We’re proud to announce that the Euro American Financial City 2 project in Hangzhou City, China, wins a REARD Silver award in the Corporate & Commercial category. The awards celebrate the best work in China based on innovation, performance, aesthetics, sustainability, and impact on the local community and economy. Located in the heart of the city’s emerging tech district, the mixed-use project strategically integrates work and living spaces with social and wellness environments to create a vibrant tech village for tenants and the community. A central theme throughout the project is access to nature, light and air. A large public plaza sits at the heart of the development, with cascading terraces along the towers that blur the boundaries between indoors and out. Breathable facades and semi-outdoor workspaces achieve significant energy savings and enhanced building performance. Congratulations to the team! https://lnkd.in/eXSfvHqG

  • 💎 Shine bright like a diamond. 💎 Tishman Corporation’s Crystal Bridge Hongqiao project in Shanghai does just that, with its distinctive diamond-like glass curtain wall and connecting bridge. The mixed-use development also features five Grade A office buildings, high-end retail, public space and transit connections, and is expected to open in 2025. Sustainability and innovation run through all aspects of the design, with the project tracking LEED Gold and China Green Building 2-star certifications. Buildings will be open to the city to integrate business, retail and urban functions, while a sunken garden connects the ground floor and underground, intertwining public space and commercial functionality to better accommodate tenants and residents.  Interior lobbies are designed with user experience at the core to create interconnected, intelligent spaces. The interior design integrates the external forms and functions of each of the five buildings while differentiating each one with unique individual colors, materiality and lighting.  Finally, inspired by natural elements, the landscape includes an outdoor theater, central green space and flexible garden facilities, as well as rooftop cloud gardens for employees. Transitional space between buildings has also been carefully considered to include pocket parks to give back more green space to the community.

  • At NBBJ, we believe the built environment is inextricably linked to positive health outcomes. Which is why we’re proud to announce that Modern Healthcare—the premier healthcare publication—has named NBBJ a recipient of its Best in Business Award.     The recognition honors NBBJ’s commitment to design beautiful, high-performing healthcare buildings. Most notably, Modern Healthcare cited our work for Atrium Health in North Carolina, which encompasses one of the largest prefabrication construction initiatives in history.     Working with partners like DPR Construction and Rodgers Builders, Inc., our approach to prefabrication spans numerous hospitals—including the David L. Conlan Center at Carolinas Rehabilitation (shown here) and the Carolinas Medical Center, of which 60% of the project’s components are prefabricated. Among the first three hospitals alone, $100 million in cost savings has been achieved.  Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/eufpwMrW #nbbjdesign #healthcare #healthcarearchitecture #healthcaredesign #modernhealthcare #bestinbusiness

  • Curious about how AI reshapes the future of building design? NBBJ’s Design Technology Futures Leader, Kristen Forward, joins Augmented AI's Shift AI podcast with Boaz Ashkenazy to explore how AI and computational design revolutionize architectural practice.  Forward discusses how data-driven approaches and artificial intelligence are transforming concept development to regulatory compliance in building design, offering a fascinating glimpse of what’s possible when human creativity meets computational innovation.  “There’s this merging of both human and artificial intelligence. It’s really helping us solve or tackle hard problems and drive innovation,” says Forward. “There’s this idea of collection, this idea of partnership.”  Listen (and watch) here: https://lnkd.in/eEKWcAhJ #AI #artificialintelligence #AIinarchitecture #computationaldesign

To create research buildings of the future, we must first understand what scientists want in the present. To do so, NBBJ and The New York Academy of Sciences partnered on a survey of 1,059 scientists in varying stages of their careers.   The results provide valuable insights as to how research buildings can be built differently, prioritizing sustainability, collaboration and flexibility. In fact, 65% of scientists say the design of their research building would impact their decision to work for an employer. Learn more and view the full survey results here: https://lnkd.in/gu5mmCCJ. And tune in next month when we release more survey insights focused on technology, flexibility and sustainability.

  • Straight to the TOP ⬆️! The 445-bed Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center New Tower and Inpatient Expansion project tops out today! This project addresses growing demand for healthcare services in North Carolina through innovative design and construction processes such as prefabricated construction—60% of the project’s building components are prefab, including its facade and patient rooms shown on this video! A true “community campus,” the bed tower incorporates pathways designed to host work by local artists, musicians and craftspeople, as well as interior design that pays homage to the Carolinas’ natural biomes (piedmont, coast, and mountains) and a landscape that features native plants.  Congrats to our client on this exciting milestone and click below to learn more about the project. https://lnkd.in/eT4_AXmV #healthcarearchitecture #medicalcenter #toppingout #nbbjdesign

  • “Though the path is close, it will not be reached without walking; though the task is small, it will not be accomplished without doing.” This ancient Chinese proverb echoes the design of the exhibition pavilion at Biosparc, a life sciences industrial park developed through a partnership between Temasek and Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP). The exhibition pavilion’s modern wooden design highlights the fusion of cultural backgrounds and technological visions of Singapore and Suzhou, while the curved form blends harmoniously with the pavilion’s natural surroundings.  The timber structure also helps reduce carbon emissions, and solar panels installed on the roof contribute to energy savings. Based on the natural slope of the site, a riverside landscaped area and stepped plaza featuring local plantings provide a variety of flexible outdoor spaces.

  • The 14-story inpatient addition tower continues to rise at the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) Hospital Expansion Project in Southwest Portland!  The 513,000-square-foot tower will house surgical oncology and cellular therapy services; the building will open with 128 beds with space for 64 more to accommodate future needs. The exterior will primarily feature glass vision panels and white spandrel glass, which reflects the surrounding landscape and ever-changing daylight conditions. “The outstretched forms of the patient floors serve as an iconic entry landmark, and afford patients and staff panoramic views of Mt. Hood,” said NBBJ partner Jose Sama. The project is expected to open in April 2026.  Read more about the project and its progress in Daily Journal of Commerce Oregon: https://lnkd.in/gQfWyjaq KPFF Consulting Engineers I Stantec I Mayer/Reed, Inc.
