In celebration of our 50th Anniversary, we recently announced the Starting XI of an All-Star Commemorative Team! Today, we would like to recognize one of those Starting XI: Capitol Broadcasting Company! With the leadership of Jim Goodmon, CBC was integral in the purchase and development of 118-acres in Raleigh, which would later be named WRAL Soccer Park. The facility opened in 1981 with 14 fields, expanded to 21 fields in 1987, and continues to be a hub of operation and designation sports complex for practices, league play, tournaments, and non-soccer events.
A few years after the facility opened, Mr. Goodmon and CBC generously forgave the remaining mortgage debt CASL owed on the original land purchase, allowing CASL to expand in more ways than one. In 2015, CBC once again stepped up to help finance a $3.8 million renovation at WRAL Soccer Park through a loan and grant. The generosity and support of Jim Goodmon and CBC over the years allowed CASL to continue developing, maintaining, and updating WRAL Soccer Park, giving CASL the capacity to serve more youth in our community and allowing NCFC Youth to continue to do so today.
