NJHA is delighted to partner with the NJ Department of Military and Veterans Affairs in a new chapter of our Mental Health First Aid Training initiative to support veterans and service members. We’re collaborating with faith-based organizations to provide trainings to help congregants and other community members know how best to help a Veteran in need. DMAVA’s Esther Chucaralao, NJHA’s Mary Ditri, DHA, FHELA, FACHE and DMAVA Deputy Commissioner Vincent Solomeno were part of a kickoff event today hosted by Macedonia Baptist Church in Neptune. They also celebrated phase one results, including: 42 mental health first aid training sessions held across all 21 counties 540 individuals trained in MHFA 745 persons referred to mental health services, thanks to the support of our new trainees.

New Jersey’s rich diversity is reflected in our healthcare workforce. Among NJ’s nurses and “nurse extenders” like certified nurse assistants, 87% are female, 61% are people of color, 39% are immigrants and 28% are age 55+. Our final panel of NJHA’s workforce summit today discusses their essential contributions to our workforce – not only filling critically needed jobs, but also reflecting New Jersey communities. Many thanks to our moderator NJHA’s Amina Razanica, MBA, FHFMA and panelists Julie Ellis, MBA, SHRM-SCP of Inspira Health and Ken Caldera of Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation.

This afternoon’s panel at NJHA’s workforce summit is digging in on fierce competition for healthcare professionals. It comes from neighboring states along with other industries like education, retail pharmacies and insurance companies. Growing the healthcare talent pool begins with “talking about the why” - healthcare’s mission of caring, service and making a difference in people’s lives. NJHA’s Cathleen Bennett moderates a great panel with Beth Green, SPHR, PCC of Cooper University Health Care and Mary (D'Apolito) Deno of RWJBarnabas Health.
