NYPA is the nation's largest state power organization, serving government, not-for-profit, and business customers.
About us
The New York Power Authority is the nation's largest state public power organization, with 17 generating facilities and more than 1,550 circuit-miles of transmission lines. More than 70 percent of the electricity we produce is clean renewable hydropower. NYPA is a leader in promoting energy efficiency, new energy technologies and electric transportation initiatives. Our lower-cost power production and electricity purchases support hundreds of thousands of jobs throughout the state. Our business customers range from Fortune 100 giants competing in international markets to small manufacturing or service firms that are vital to local economies. We sell power to government agencies; to community-owned electric systems and rural electric cooperatives; to job-producing companies; to private utilities for resale—without profit—to their customers; and to neighboring states, under federal requirements. An exciting day in Queens this morning as we celebrated our progress in building electric bus charging infrastructure and highlight the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s purchase of 265 new zero-emission buses, supporting the MTA’s transition to a cleaner, more sustainable future. These buses will serve multiple routes across New York City, further advancing the MTA's efforts to reduce carbon emissions and enhance the quality of life for millions of New Yorkers by providing cleaner air and quieter streets. Our commitment to clean energy and electric mobility is a key part of our vision for a greener, healthier future for communities across the state. NYPA is proud to contribute to this transformative effort as we work together to set a new standard for urban transportation and environmental stewardship as the nation’s largest bus fleet transitions away from fossil fuels. 🚌 https://lnkd.in/enZb7ZEj

Moving right along! We’re making progress on the Smart Path Connect transmission upgrades in the North Country which will reinforce the resiliency of the transmission system and help deliver power from NYPA’s St. Lawrence-FDR Hydroelectric Power Project. Recently, we reached a milestone of installing more than 500 new steel towers along the 56-mile right-of-way and completed restringing nearly 85 percent of the transmission lines. We’re investing millions to upgrade New York’s energy system to meet rising energy demand, reinforce the safety and security of the grid and help decarbonize the energy system.
