  • In celebration of Black History Month, we're proud to highlight the enduring legacy of New Brown Memorial Baptist Church. Founded in the 1950s as the first Black Protestant Church in Red Hook, Brooklyn, New Brown has been a cornerstone of the community from its inception to the present day. The church provides a space for spiritual growth and community engagement, offering essential services such as free daycare, tutoring, addiction recovery support, music classes, funeral services, and a venue for community gatherings. With the support of Nixon Peabody, New Brown Memorial Baptist Church has strategically utilized a little-known New York real estate law to preserve its rich legacy, ensuring the church's mission and impact will endure for future generations. https://lnkd.in/g5mjTWH9

  • Dive into the collaboration between artist Jonas Wood and the LA Clippers. With Nixon Peabody's innovative legal support, this partnership blends art and sports in a groundbreaking way. Images courtesy of the Los Angeles Clippers. A life-long basketball fan and a Clippers’ season ticket holder, Jonas envisioned a unique collaboration with the NBA franchise after he was approached with a proposal to design the bold and inspired “City Edition” uniforms and merchandise. His imagination extended beyond the gear—to include the court of the newly built Intuit Dome. Through their studio’s relationship with Nixon Peabody, Jonas recognized the opportunity to leverage Nixon Peabody’s Arts & Cultural Institutions, Entertainment, and Sports experience to realize this collaboration. Together, the NP team, including Thaddeus Stauber, Ellie Heisler, and Farrah A. Usmani, negotiated an innovative deal with the Clippers and the NBA, allowing Jonas to design the basketball court, uniforms, and limited-edition merchandise. This venture represents the first deal to include court design and name, image, and likeness permission structure within the agreement.

  • As the data center industry continues to grow, innovative financing and development strategies are essential. 🏢 One such strategy, says Erica F. Buckley, is the condominium structure. This offers unique benefits for data center operators and developers, including shared costs and benefits, maximized financing options, and efficient resource management. 💵 Securing a lease before construction is crucial for obtaining favorable financing terms for data centers, says Kristen Fallon. For developers with multiple projects, revolving borrowing base facilities offer flexible financing, allowing ongoing monitoring and value adjustments during the lease term. By leveraging these strategies, data center developers can ensure the successful completion of their projects. Our attorneys remain committed to helping clients capitalize on opportunities while mitigating risks.

  • On February 10, 2025, Trump issued an Executive Order pausing the enforcement of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). FCPA is the U.S. government’s primary means to combat overseas corruption. It prohibits U.S. individuals and corporations from bribing foreign officials for business advantages. The Order establishes a 180-day “review period,” during which the Attorney General is directed to “review guidelines and policies governing investigations and enforcement actions under the FCPA” and may not initiate any new FCPA investigations or enforcement actions. Companies with an international presence should not relax their ongoing anti-bribery and anticorruption compliance efforts but should continue to observe best practices for identifying and mitigating bribery risk in their international operations. • New Brown Memorial Baptist Church was founded in the 1950s as the first Black Protestant Church in Red Hook, Brooklyn. It has become a cornerstone of the community, offering essential services like free daycare, tutoring, addiction recovery support, and more. Recently, the church faced a significant challenge: the lack of a satisfaction of mortgage, leaving its property title encumbered and vulnerable to fraud. Witnessing Red Hook's rapid development, New Brown sought legal counsel to resolve this decades-old issue. Enter Nixon Peabody attorneys Richard Shore and Julienne Hoffman, who utilized the rarely invoked New York Real Property Actions and Proceedings Law to successfully discharge the "ancient" mortgage. Their work ultimately provided New Brown with legal and financial security, enabling it to fully leverage its property rights and protect against potential fraud.
