The streets of this new district in the Netherlands will be home to kids, pedestrians and bikes: no cars allowed. World Economic Forum reports on the soon-to-be developed district in Utrecht that prioritizes people and sustainability over cars. Merwede will be almost completely car free. Walls and courtyards will be covered by greenery and rooftops will feature solar panels. As there's only room for parking for 1 out of 3 households, the 12.000 residents will share a fleet of cars that are parked on the outskirts. Nearby public transportation connects them to all parts of the Netherlands. Multiple stakeholders were involved in the design, including BURA urbanism, Gemeente Utrecht and 10 owners. Netherlands Consulate in San Francisco reposted this
Every year, on November 16, we celebrate #DutchAmericanHeritageDay to shine a light on the close cultural and economic ties between our two nations. 🇺🇸 🤝 🇳🇱 It all started with a simple "hello," and today: - More than 3.5 million Americans are of Dutch descent. - Through our economic ties, we support more than 1 million American jobs. - The Netherlands is a fixture in the top five foreign investors in the US with more than 2,200 Dutch companies active in the US that have investments worth more than $717.5 billion in 2023. - It goes both ways, because the Netherlands is the second destination country for foreign direct investment coming from the US. - We have even gone to space together! What does Dutch-American Heritage Day mean to you? #NLintheUSA #Dutch #DutchAmerican #DutchTrade #DutchInnovations

Building water resiliency is essential if we want to prepare our cities and land for the future. The topic of water is close to our Dutch hearts. We believe international exchange about mutual challenges and sharing best practices can lead to global preparedness. On the occasion of the visit to California of the Dutch waterboard Hollandsche Delta, Netherlands Consulate in San Francisco together with Arcadis hosted a panel discussion on water resiliency. Experts from the Netherlands and the US were featured to discuss crucial topics such as climate adaptation, climate fatigue, ongoing challenges and fostering cross-border collaboration. Opportunities like these show how the Netherlands and California continue to work together on climate action. The evening offered a platform for the exchange of innovative ideas and discussions, and we look forward to continuing these vital conversations.
