  • "Regenerative Ecosystems" or "Soil" week just came to an end. Marking two weeks since our eco-living month at Riverside Ecoliving Jericó (Colombia) began 🌴 The two main projects participants focused on this week were: #Permaculture Design and Bio-Construction. 1) Permaculture Design: Final project - design a Permaculture-based proposal for Riverside. To get there, we learned the importance of developing a deeper understanding of the place we are in, including sectors, zones, elements, functions. In groups of 7 people, two quality designs were created, including practical recommendations that multiplies functions and enrich the entire system. For example: a rain water catchment system, a goat manure system, a new solar panel system, multi-functional communal and wellness spaces, plant system for water infiltration along the 'slopey' terrain, & more. We were so impressed how quickly one start thinking like a Permaculturist! 2) Bio-construction: Renovate a wellness and ceremonial space at Riverside built 100% with native Andean bamboo called "Guadua". - Learned about "Guada", the most important bamboo of the Americas due to its quality, for construction & other - Learned how and when to harvest it - How to prepare it for uses of our project - & how to treat it with a natural acid created from smoking coffee bean husks for a long lasting and strengthening effect One-off activities for this Regenerative Ecosystems week: - Cacau + Aluna Documentary by the Kogis - Decolonisation and Activism workshop - Bonfire sharing circle (“We talk from the heart”) - Japanese Origami workshop by Tanvi (a Nomad Farmer participant) On the Weekend:  - Organic Coffee Farm visit and Cold Waterfall Plunge - Hike to "Fin del Mundo" with a flute concert at the top - Amazonian medicine ceremony (known as yagé in Colombia), more commonly, Ayahuasca Next week's thematic: Regenerating the Self, the starting point of #regeneration 🫀

I recently had the absolute joy of staying at Traditional Dream Factory with Nomad Farm retreats. 🌳We focused upon #regeneration; going beyond mitigating harm and actively supporting nature to thrive. 🌾I experienced living within community - sharing meals, stories and knowledge. Thank you to everyone for their wisdom, openness and teachings in #agroforestry, #permaculture and more. 💭This month has confirmed my passion in striving to align systems, policies or projects to nature’s cycles and has invigorated me to expand my learning on all things agroecology and community living. If you are working on a project that fits within this space, I’d love to hear about it. 📸 photos by Nomad Farm

Week 2 and 3 of our pop-up coliving at Traditional Dream Factory are dedicated to learning and practicing Permaculture. On Saturday, we had our first Collective Action - with expert agroecology guidance of Nayã from Rota Agroecologica. It's incredible all that we can achieve with 20 people in 2 hours! - The system: Syntropic Agroforestry System 📈♻️🌳 - The design: 5 nests 🪹 1 spiral 🌀 2 half moons 🌗 - Location: Valley, protected from the wind, plenty of sun light, overlooking the future lake 🧭 🪱What we did - creating an environment for microorganism to return to the soil where we are developing the new system 🪵 We used - existing soil, mulch, ash, wood chips, manure, wood, some basic tools including shovels and wheel barrows, our hands and our hearts This is the magic of coming together, synchronizing for a common purpose with infectious positive energy. This week, we finish the plant design and get planting! #permaculture #syntropic #agroforestry #digitalnomads #regeneration

Founder at Nomad Farm. Eco-Entrepreneur | Digital Nomad | Community Builder | Permaculture Designer. Bringing the Regenerative Lifestyle to Digital Nomads 👩🏻🌾🧑🏽💻

I'm excited to share that I've completed the Permaculture Design course at Ecoversity and received my certification 🌳 Permaculture, as I've come to understand through this journey, is far from being just a way of designing sustainable agriculture systems; it's a philosophy deeply rooted in mimicking the intricate workings of nature. It's the principles that we chose to guide us as we design our project Nomad Farm. Throughout this course, if there's one profound lesson that stuck with me is the pivotal role of community within permaculture projects. While energy, plants, animals, and water follow certain patterns, humans introduce a layer of complexity that demands delicate consideration. With their feelings, needs, desires, and traumas, humans become the linchpin of success or failure within any ecosystem. So, as I embark on designing Nomad Farm, I've come to realize that fostering a thriving community is just as essential—if not more so—than perfecting water catchment systems or nurturing food forests. Community dynamics, governance structures, shared rituals, defined roles, and upheld values form the bedrock upon which sustainable ecosystems thrive. Reflecting on this, I recently sought advice from a wise man named Lars on what truly fosters a flourishing community. His response was elegantly simple yet profound: "A successful community hinges on the health of your soil. Just as nourished soil yields bountiful harvests, happy soil fosters happy people. It's all interconnected." To the team at Ecoversity, particularly Stephen Brooks and Penny Livingston, I extend my deepest gratitude for curating such an enriching curriculum and learning environment. Your wisdom has empowered me with invaluable knowledge that I'll carry forward as I continue to cultivate sustainable communities & ecosystems. #permaculture #community #sustainable #ecosystems
