For 20 years, the NCQA has advanced transparency in health plans, helping patients access crucial performance data. Transparency has led to impressive gains, such as a rise in controlled blood pressure for diabetic patients (from 39% to 62%). But challenges remain. Too many health plans still lack accountability, and consumers are often left with little choice.
