Innovation in action! Daniel Sciubba, MD, MBA, chair of neurosurgery at Northwell Health, became the first in New York State to perform Teligen spinal surgery at North Shore University Hospital. Using a tiny, flexible camera, he removed a spinal tumor in one surgery. This advanced technology allows for better surgeries, improved outcomes, and faster patient recoveries. At North Shore University Hospital, we’re proud to be part of the journeys that transform lives. For Dani and Alyssa, their path to parenthood was filled with resilience, overcoming three losses and a diagnosis of stage 4 endometriosis. With the help of Dr. Tomer Singer and IVF, their dream came true when they welcomed their son, Roey, on November 5 with Dr. Victor Klein. Making the moment even more special, Dr. Harvey Marchbein—who delivered Alyssa nearly 35 years ago—was part of the team for Dani’s C-section. We’re so grateful to have been part of their story and to celebrate this full-circle moment. Welcome to the world, Roey!

Once again, the team at the Sandra Atlas Bass Heart Hospital at North Shore University Hospital has one of our heart transplant patients back to his regular self. Richard Ashe had no heart issues whatsoever, so when he suffered a heart attack, he and his family were in shock. Following his transplant, he started regaining his strength and never gave up hope while relying on tremendous support from his family. Recently, he returned to North Shore’s cardiac ICU to thank the healthcare workers who treated him as part of their family.

At North Shore University Hospital, some stories truly come full circle. Francisco Morales, fondly known as Frank, dedicated 35 years of service to our hospital before retiring in 2020. Today, his daughter Monica carries on his legacy as part of our team, often sharing how much Frank treasures his time here. Recently, Frank returned — not as a staff member but as a patient — facing diabetes, heart disease and preparing for bypass surgery. His resilience is a powerful reminder of why we do what we do. It’s a privilege to care for Frank with the same dedication he showed to our community. ❤️

Experience a day in the life of Ema Kraut, a dedicated physical therapist at North Shore University Hospital, where extraordinary patient care is a team effort. Here, Ema works closely with an interdisciplinary team to support a patient taking her first walk in the hallway—just three days after a bilateral lung transplant. This remarkable milestone, and many moments like this, are made possible thanks to people like Ema and the village that supports our patients. It's a testament to the power of advanced care and teamwork. 🌟

For the holidays, here’s the story of Yvonne, a native of Guyana who was facing major open-heart surgery just one year ago. It took a full team effort from our experts at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, the Sandra Atlas Bass Heart Hospital at North Shore University Hospital and the inpatient rehab center at Glen Cove Hospital to get Yvonne back to enjoying her life to the fullest – including her cherished venture as a volunteer teacher. Through it all, Yvonne’s vivacious spirit left an indelible mark on our staff. ☃️🎄🕎❤️
