Creating opportunity through housing
About us
NHA's mission is to create opportunity through housing. We build and rehabilitate affordable housing for Oregonians earning low incomes including seniors, families and people with special needs. NHA also operates the Annie Ross House shelter for homeless families with children and provide rapid re-housing and stabilization services through our HomeBase program. Home is a place of safety and retreat, a place where family and community can grow. For some Oregonians with low incomes, having a place to call home is out of reach. Low wages or fixed incomes combined with the high cost of housing forces these families to choose between rent, utilities, nutritious food, medications and other basic necessities. NHA is working to provide new opportunities through quality affordable housing.

Today we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Crabby Beach Foundation. They have been supporting NHA’s programs and services through general operating grants since 2013—more than a decade! Their steady support has allowed NHA to focus less on the administrative components of grants and more on our mission, delivering housing stability, and homelessness prevention services. Over the years, they have increased their support to become one of our largest and most impactful funders. We appreciate the trusting and dedicated work of the Crabby Beach Foundation and their many years of partnership. Thank you, Crabby Beach Foundation!

Today we’d like to highlight our partner Northwest Pilot Project, Inc.! NWPP has been an instrumental service partner for our Emmons Place South PSH residents, providing day-to-day services to households transitioning out of houselessness. NWPP also partnered with NHA during a relocation process for residents at Rosemont. They were tasked with providing ongoing supports to our senior community during the moving process as well as with their housing stability in their new homes. NWPP is a community-based organization with a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the social service space and has been gracious in their support to NHA households when called upon. NHA is grateful to partners like NWPP because we are stronger together and can make a tangible difference in the lives of those we serve. Thank you, NWPP, for your partnership with NHA and with your overall support in the community at large! 🙏

NHA would like to highlight our partnership with Coles + Betts Environmental and, in particular Jill Betts. Coles + Betts is an environmental consulting group that was instrumental in our M Carter Commons housing project. A firm dedicated to creating a clean, safe environment, their expertise and collaboration with NHA has enabled us to move forward confidently with M Carter Commons which is now about to break ground! The project will bring 63 affordable homes for low-income seniors to the Overlook neighborhood of North Portland. M Carter Commons is an incredibly complicated project that involved environmental obstacles we needed to work through. What was needed was an expert and we found that with Jill Betts. Jill brought her years of experience and knowledge to help us understand and then plan for how to develop the site. Beyond her efficiency and deep knowledge in this area, she brought an amazing can-do spirit and commitment to the work. In such kind words, Jill shared that she "value(s) our partnership on this project that brings much needed affordable housing to our community" and that "it is a pleasure to work with the NHA team." Coles +Betts went above and beyond advocating for us at every turn to make sure this project would move forward to bring more affordable housing to the City of Portland. For that and so much more, we are very grateful and would like to thank Jill and Coles + Betts as a whole for their remarkable partnership. 🙏

For this year’s Week of Gratitude, the Resource Development department is excited to celebrate one of our longest running partnerships – the Arbor School of Arts and Sciences! From penny wars to donating the profits from their annual Arbor Fest auction to collecting toys, food, and coats, we have been honored to be the recipient of the Arbor School’s generosity for decades. In fact, the students and school community have raised nearly $145,000 for the Annie Ross Housing Services and services teams at NHA over the years! Students go beyond donating with their involvement – each year, Arbor School students visit our shelter or a property where they learn more about how homelessness affects families and what NHA does to prevent it. Their dedication to learning about this crisis intimately as well as taking action to support Oregonians in need is remarkable. We were thrilled to present a certificate of gratitude to the students at the Arbor School this week in honor of their years of dedication and hard work. Thank you, Arbor School staff (special shoutout to Leigh), students, and parents! ❤️

Kicking off our Week of Gratitude, we’d like to thank Loveridge Hunt & Co PLLC, a CPA firm with whom NHA works very closely. Our partners at Loveridge Hunt are extremely supportive and engaged in the work that we do, consistently accommodating additional audits and tax engagements as we bring new projects online. Additionally, as other audit firms have been stepping out of the affordable housing space, we have appreciated Loveridge Hunt’s continued dedication in this space. Beyond their contributions through audits, they are consistently supportive of NHA’s mission. Thank you, Loveridge Hunt!

Thank you to LMC Construction for being an amazing supporter of NHA all year round, most definitely including their latest donations of toys and coats for NHA residents! ❤️ We are in awe of your generosity. Coats are a much-needed item for residents, and these will be sure to keep them dry and warm. Holiday season can be stressful for families experiencing financial insecurity. Donating toys helps children in our Annie Ross Program and at NHA properties experience a brighter holiday season. It helps bring joy and a sense of magic to this magical time of year. Thank you, LMC Construction!

A heartfelt thank you to Walsh Construction Co. and all their employees. 🙏 We are so grateful for our partnership with them as well as the support and passion they have for the work we do at NHA. This year's Employee Giving Campaign at Walsh Construction raised over $33,000 for Oregonians in need! We are blown away by their enthusiastic and dedicated support. NHA is passionate about the work we do in our communities, currently serving over 3,500 Oregonians, and it only can be done with community support. Thank you, Walsh Construction, for helping us creating opportunity through housing! ❤️

Happy holidays everyone! This afternoon, NHA staff gathered together for a wrapping party, wrapping up toys that were donated to us for children at NHA properties. 🎁 This picture captures only some of the many, many toy donations we received from LMC Construction, KGW-TV, KPTV at Gray Media, and Les Schwab Tire Centers. We are so grateful for their support of our residents in this way. It really makes a huge difference and brightens the holidays for so many children. Thank you for your generosity! ❤️
