Three years ago, FarmX Dealer NTS Tire Supply teamed up with researchers at AgRevival to answer a question: Could tire pressures at planting 🌱 affect the yields you'd see at harvest? 🌽 In other words: Would running lower tire pressures on planting equipment result in higher yields during harvest? The conclusion after performing the study for 3 years? Yes. 👍 "Of all the three- year projects we've done, this one has shown the most consistent results year over year," said lead researcher Nate Firle. What you see here are the 3-year average yield gains from the control pressure to the lowest pressure set for the study. The numbers would be larger, but drought conditions during the study's 3rd year decreased the yield response to the lower tire pressures a bit. However, Firle was quick to point out that "the positive or negative impact of tire pressure is going to be had on germination, emergence, and early plant development. Those are the things you see all season long. If compaction impacts root growth early, it's not as if conditions can change to where plants would develop more of a normal root system later in the season. At a certain point, the damage is done." NTS and AgRevival will be filming a video in the near future to officially wrap up the study. We'll be sure to share the video—and all the details—in the near future.
