#NYFoodHistory: The Chopped Cheese The exact origins of the chopped cheese are shrouded in mystery, but it's widely believed to have originated in Harlem bodegas in the late 20th century. One of the most popular theories is that it was invented at Hajji's Deli, now known as Blue Sky Deli (@hajjis110). The chopped cheese is a simple yet satisfying sandwich made with chopped grilled ground beef, onions, and melted cheese, all piled onto a hero roll and topped with lettuce, tomato, and condiments. The holiday season can be a particularly difficult time for so many families. That's why the New York State Restaurant Association | NYSRA is partnering with the Regional Food Bank to help ensure that everyone can enjoy the holidays without the added stress of food insecurity. Incredibly proud to serve on the boards of both of these organizations and this partnership to help serve every neighbor in need.

Governor Hochul Signed NYSRA's Restaurant Reservation Anti-Piracy Act! Earlier this year, NYSRA was proud to work with two excellent bill sponsors — Assemblyman Alex Bores and Senator Nathalia Fernandez — to pass first-in-the-nation legislation that protects restaurants by eliminating unauthorized reservation resale. Today, we are so pleased to announce that Governor Hochul signed this trailblazing bill into law. After our Government Affairs team was made aware of the reservation piracy issue happening to NYC members, we took action and proactively wrote the Restaurant Reservation Anti-Piracy Act to prevent pseudo-black-market websites from using technology to obtain restaurant reservations and then turning around to sell them to potential customers. These sites do not inform the restaurant about which reservations have been sold, and book many of them using fake names and credit cards. With today's bill signing, this practice will be made illegal by requiring all reservation platforms to have an agreement in place with the restaurants they work with as well as providing legal avenues for restaurants to take if these reservations are sold without their consent. We want to take this opportunity to thank Governor Hochul, our bill sponsors, and our restaurant operator advocates who all helped get this important legislation passed. It is a major accomplishment!
