The Progressive Robotics OKRs project was a timely reminder of why I got into OKRs in the first place. Such a great group with a potentially game-changing technology...
The first time I head about OKRs, I said "just another name for KPIs"... It turned out it is much more than that! All thanks to Ben Lamorte who offered to coach us about OKRs in Progressive Robotics! Ben probably has more coaching experience in OKRs than anyone else in the world. You couldn't expect anything less by the owner of OKRs.com! Six months ago we started a series of coaching sessions to get us into the main ideas of Objectives & Key Result. OKRs was a term that I had never heard before. And if I had, I didn't actually pay attention to it. Within the first hour of coaching, he managed to consolidate into our heads what OKRs are, why they are so important, how to write them and how to track them. A few months later... we had become OKRs champions. (This term is not made up!) Ben helped us learn how to stay focused, set the strategy, keep the team aligned and accountable. Now that I am paying more attention when I see OKRs, it turns out that they are everywhere. But there is so much information out there that can be confusing. My take on OKRs (at an early-stage startup): - Don't wait to reach the growth stage. Start early. They will keep you focused. - Keep it simple. Focus on 1 or 2 objectives. Not more. - Don't stick into them. Rewrite them as soon as you believe they don't make sense anymore. Don't wait for next quarter. - There isn't any better person on the planet to teach you about OKRs than Ben Lamorte!
