PBS Reno and Sinclair Inc. Launch KNPB-VC, ATSC 3.0 Virtual Channel 5-11 Today we announced the launch of KNPB-VC, a new virtual ATSC 3.0 channel, broadcasting on virtual channel 5-11. This innovative launch brings PBS Reno’s high-quality programming into the NEXTGEN television space, offering viewers a state-of-the-art experience, including enhanced picture quality with Advanced HDR by Technicolor. The programming on KNPB-VC mirrors that of PBS Reno’s main channel 5-1, while providing enhanced accessibility for those with NEXTGEN-enabled televisions. Virtual ATSC 3.0 channels are transmissions that provide programming directly over-the-air to smart TVs using the NEXTGEN broadcast data channel capacity of a host broadcaster. Sinclair Inc., and the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT Bombay) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for collaboration of technology and standards development in wireless broadcast services over next generation telecom and broadcast networks. Research efforts will focus on enhancements to the international ATSC 3.0 wireless broadcast standard for a variety of mobile, television and other fixed applications. New capabilities of ATSC 3.0 will advance Broadcast-to-Everything (B2X) use cases to provide dynamic traffic management and fast interworking with 5G networks, efficient spectrum utilization, low-latency datacasting, edge content distribution and improved battery life for smartphones, featurephones, wearables and IoT devices. We are thrilled to announce Matthew Goldman has been named Vice President, Strategic and Technical Initiatives. In this newly created position, Matthew will lead the implementation, expansion, and support of advanced operational technologies, including High Dynamic Range Video (HDR). Goldman will also manage conformance testing and develop operational handoff processes for #ATSC 3.0 #NextGen Broadcasting. Goldman joined Sinclair in 2021 and was most recently Senior Director, Media Engineering and Architecture. Sinclair and Nebraska Public Media Announce Launch of First Station Offering Free Virtual Channel Hosting in ATSC 3.0 Sinclair Broadcast Group, LLC, a subsidiary of Sinclair, Inc. (NASDAQ: SBGI), and Nebraska Public Media announced the launch of the first free Broadcast-Enabled Streaming TV (“BEST”) Channel in Omaha, Nebraska. Nebraska Public Media’s PBS and local programming is now hosted on KPTM FOX 42, Sinclair’s station in Omaha, as a free, virtual channel in addition to its other programming offerings. Sinclair and America’s Public Television Stations (APTS) previously announced that Sinclair would provide carriage of APTS member stations for free in markets where Sinclair has deployed NEXTGEN Broadcast Service (ATSC 3.0) and a public television station has not. The launch in Omaha is the first under this unique, forward-looking arrangement. Nebraska Public Media’s virtual channel delivers programming in high dynamic range (Advanced HDR by Technicolor), significantly enhancing video quality for viewers.

SBTVD Forum technology recommendations for TV 3.0 Considering the results of the TV 3.0 Project Phase 3 complementary tests, as well as market and intellectual property aspects of the candidate technologies, the SBTVD Forum forwarded its recommendations on the selection of candidate technologies to the Brazilian Ministry of Communications. The following recommendations were adopted for the continuation of the TV 3.0 Project: Over-the-air Physical Layer – To adopt ATSC 3.0 technology for the physical layer of TV 3.0, combining MIMO and LDM tools to maximize spectral and energy efficiency, and with the TxID tool to enable geographical segmentation of content and emergency alerts.
