So how did University of Minnesota chemistry major Chayeng Moua land a part-time gig as the Open Textbook Library’s (OTL) student assistant? His critical thinking skills and keen eye for detail were part of it, for sure. But we tend to think it’s his passion for open textbooks that makes him excel at creating new records for the library, more than 300 at last count. 📚 Chayeng demonstrates one way that students can play a meaningful role in making open educational resources available to all. As he puts it, “Change, you know. It’s just very sweet.” Read more about Chayeng and his work at the OTL in our latest blog: https://lnkd.in/gFqYC32d #OER #OpenEducation

A community of open education practitioners transforming higher education together.
About us
The Open Education Network (OEN) is an open education membership organization of both vision and practice, and the leadership, actions, and results of our community are transforming higher education. Based at the University of Minnesota, we’re working together with our members to make higher education more open. The seed for the OEN was planted when, in 2012, the Open Textbook Library (OTL) was founded. Two years later the Open Textbook Network was started. Today, as the Open Education Network and with a small staff, we support a growing community of more than 1,400 higher education institutions and consortia engaged in open educational initiatives. Together we advance open educational practices, engage faculty, remove barriers, and enhance student success.

“…academics face significant problems in identifying good OER textbooks,” writes William H. Walters, Executive Director of the Library at Manhattan University . He attributes this, in part, to the low quality of online #OER directories. His recent study of OER textbook directories provides comparative information and identifies three as “especially useful”: B.C. Open Collection, LibreTexts Commons, and the Open Textbook Library. 📚 Learn more about this study in the open access, peer-reviewed paper, "Finding Free OER Textbooks Online: Untangling the Web." https://lnkd.in/gZb6bden BCcampus LibreTexts
