On Inventor’s Day, we’re always excited to celebrate our founder, Elisha Otis, and his contributions to our industry. Without the elevator safety brake, which he invented in 1852, our skylines wouldn’t reach as high and passengers all over the world wouldn’t have the same level of mobility and accessibility. And today, we’re continuing to bring innovation to the elevator market to ensure we move millions of passengers safely every day. This year, we’ve asked the next generation of inventors – our own colleagues’ children! – to think up the next great invention that will make an impact on our world. Check out these historic elevators in Pittsburgh! First up is the Otis Signal Control from the Oliver Building. Once active and in service until 2016, its low-rise bank retains the original charm, now serving as a storage closet. Next, the Allegheny County Office Building is home to a rare manual Otis micro-drive elevator circa 1929-1931, complete with a unique pneumatic door operator. The iconic Triangle project in #Paris reached a key milestone with the installation of the first Otis SkyBuild™ double-deck elevator. SkyBuild is our self-climbing elevator solution that enhances logistics efficiency for work crews and transports them safely, quickly and comfortably during the construction. Its unique design supports the construction of the world's tallest buildings and once construction is complete, it goes straight into service as a SkyRise® elevator. This innovative system will save 320 MWh of energy per year, which equals to approx. the energy produced by two olympic swimming pools covered by solar panels (nearly 2,200 m²). Otis is proud to offer our cutting-edge building technology as part of our partnership with BESIX on this unique building in Paris that will feature a total of 43 Otis elevators and escalators, including our Gen2®, Gen360™ and Link™ platforms and our Compass® 360 destination management system. The highly anticipated mixed-use building is scheduled to be completed in 2026 and will include office space, a hotel, a medical center, a nursery, retail stores, restaurants and a panoramic belvedere. #MadeToMoveYou
